( NewsNation ) — Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, is taking time off after a viral moment showed her leaving last weekend’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in tears after a gunman’s foiled intrusion at the event.

Charlie Kirk was assassinated Sept. 10 as he spoke at a college campus in Utah. On Wednesday, his wife blamed continuing political violence on the “radicalization” of Americans and said on social media Monday, “Enough is enough.”

TPUSA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet said Erika Kirk was traumatized by the disturbance at the Washington Hilton on Saturday.

TPUSA official blames small Vance crowd on ticket ‘shenanigans’

“Erika is using this moment, I think, as kind of a reset, to kind of refocus and spend time with her family and take a pause,” TPUSA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet told “Elizabeth Vargas Reports.”

Kolvet said the cancelation of a previously scheduled event this week with Erika Kirk and Vice President JD Vance was unrelated to Saturday’s disturbance at the WHCA dinner. That was a scheduling issue, he said.

Federal prosecutors say Cole Allen, the California man accused of jumping a security checkpoint Saturday, was armed with multiple weapons and was targeting President Trump and members of his Cabinet. Allen was stopped before reaching the ballroom where the president was attending the press gala, but shots fired in the confrontation sent guests scrambling for cover. Trump and other officials were safely hustled out of the room.

“If we cannot get unanimity around the fact that political assassinations and political violence is not OK in America, then we are truly in trouble,” Kolvet said.
