Charles addresses Congress during ‘times of great uncertainty,’ Iran war

( NewsNation ) — Britain’s King Charles III arrived at the U.S. Capitol Tuesday for a rare speech to Congress that underscored the importance of unity and the need to defend democratic values at a time of deep divisions between the two longtime allies.

“For all that time,” Charles said, “our destinies have been interlinked.”

Shaky foreign relations

President Donald Trump has repeatedly bashed U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer over his reluctance to help U.S. war efforts in Iran.

Many of the lawmakers in the room were at the White House correspondents’ dinner Saturday, which was disrupted by a shooting authorities have described as an attempted assassination against Trump.

“Let me say with unshakeable resolve,” Charles said, “such acts of violence will never succeed.”

Charles told Congress the same “unyielding resolve” seen after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States was “needed for the defense of Ukraine and her most courageous people … in order to secure a truly just and lasting peace.”

He also said the partnership between Europe and America was “more important today than it has ever been.”
