( NewsNation ) — The search for a missing Norwegian Cruise Line crew member who fell overboard has been suspended.

“Late in the evening on April 25, 2026, a crew member went overboard east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Upon confirming the incident, the vessel immediately informed the United States Coast Guard Marine Rescue Coordination Center and a coordinated search and rescue operation was initiated with no success. The search and rescue operation has since been suspended. The safety, security, and well-being of our crew is our highest priority. Our thoughts are with the crewmember’s family during this difficult time,” a spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Line said.

A Norwegian Breakaway crew member fell overboard late Saturday evening near the coast of Cape Cod. The ship was returning to Boston after a seven-day cruise to Bermuda.

Authorities say the crew member was seen falling from an upper deck and into the water on security footage.

Following a ship-wide man-overboard alert, the ship turned around to assist in the rescue, with a rescue boat and life rings deployed at the last known position of the crew member, according to the Coast Guard.

A Coast Guard search helicopter began searching early Sunday morning, with crews from Provincetown assisting in the operation.

The identity of the crew member has not been released.
