Undocumented truck driver who killed honeymooners arrested by ICE
( NewsNation ) — A truck driver in the U.S. illegally has been arrested by federal immigration officials after allegedly killing two people in Oregon while driving a semi truck in 2025 , according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Rajinder Kumar, 32, was taken into custody on April 22 and is being held at the Northwest Ice Processing Center in Tacoma, Washington, as he awaits removal proceedings.
Kumar, according to DHS, jackknifed his semi-truck and trailer, blocking both lanes of U.S. Highway 20, when a Subaru Outback collided with the semi-truck. The vehicle’s occupants, William Micah Carter and Jennifer Lynn Lower, were on their honeymoon at the time, according to the New York Post .
200K truck drivers could lose their licenses in Trump’s immigration push
Kumar entered the U.S. illegally near Lukeville, Arizona, in 2022, according to DHS. He was released into the U.S. under the immigration policies at the time and granted work authorization in 2023. He later obtained a commercial driver’s licence in California.
In recent months, the Trump administration has targeted immigrants holding CDLs after several fatal accidents and reports of states illegally issuing the licenses.
A new rule issued in March could strip up to 200,000 immigrant truck drivers of their commercial driver’s licenses, or CDLs.
The regulations bar most immigrants from holding the licenses, with the only exceptions being people in the U.S. on H–2A (temporary agricultural workers), H–2B (temporary nonagricultural workers) or E–2 (treaty investors) visas.
