Watch live: Senate Democrats highlight Iran war powers resolution push
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) will speak with reporters Thursday morning as Democrats prepare to force another vote on a war powers resolution to block the Trump administration from further action in Iran.
Thursday’s vote marks the sixth attempt and comes as the conflict has passed a key milestone related to the War Powers Act of 1973: 60 days. Some Republicans have signaled that threshold could be a turning point in their support for ongoing operations in the Middle East.
“Donald Trump and his administration are endangering the lives of servicemembers and spending billions on an illegal war that is not supported by the majority of Americans,” Schumer said in a press release . “The 60-day milestone underscores the pressing need to pass our War Powers Resolution to withdraw forces from this war, but to be clear – Congress should have acted weeks ago.”
“Senate Republicans must finally stand up for American families and hold Trump accountable,” he added.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
