Netanyahu AI Video Pairs Mamdani With Iran, Turkey Leaders

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted an AI-generated campaign video Friday depicting New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrating with Iran's supreme leader and other foreign leaders over the prospect of Netanyahu losing Israel's upcoming election.

The video , posted to Netanyahu's personal X account, depicts computer-generated versions of Mamdani, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, The New York Times reported.

The images in the video are labeled as AI-generated.

"Erdogan, bro, are you coming to the party of the fall of Netanyahu's elections?" the fictional version of Mamdani asks Erdogan during a telephone call.

Khamenei and Abbas then join the fictional conversation, according to the Times, with the group celebrating the possibility of Netanyahu's defeat.

The video ends with Netanyahu winning the election and the others calling off their celebration.

"They want Netanyahu to fall. Don't let them win," a narrator says in Hebrew, according to the Times.

Mamdani's office declined to comment to the newspaper.

The video comes amid an increasingly public dispute between Netanyahu and Mamdani, a longtime critic of Israel's military operations in Gaza.

Netanyahu's Likud Party also has used campaign billboards depicting Mamdani alongside Khamenei, Erdogan and Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, according to the Times. One billboard carries the message, "Don't let them win."

Netanyahu has accused Mamdani of "fomenting hate."

Mamdani, meanwhile, has repeatedly called Netanyahu a "war criminal" and pledged during his mayoral campaign to have the Israeli leader arrested if he traveled to New York under a 2024 International Criminal Court warrant.

Mamdani acknowledged in July that New York City lacks the legal authority to enforce the warrant but called on the federal government to arrest Netanyahu. The United States is not a member of the ICC and does not recognize the court's jurisdiction.

The ICC accused Netanyahu of war crimes and crimes against humanity stemming from Israel's war against Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Israel rejects the allegations and the court's jurisdiction.

President Donald Trump also has ruled out any arrest of Netanyahu during his expected visit to New York later this month for the United Nations General Assembly.

"Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America," Trump said in July.
