Scott Brown to Newsmax: New Hampshire Voters 'Kind of Sick of' Sununus

Scott Brown, who is seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire, told Newsmax Friday that voters are "kind of sick of ... the Sununus," and he is confident he can pull off an upset in the Granite State.

Brown, a former U.S. senator from Massachusetts, has done it before. In 2010, he scored a stunning upset in neighboring Massachusetts, winning a special election for the Senate seat long held by Democrat Ted Kennedy.

Brown lost his bid for reelection in 2012 and moved to New Hampshire, where he unsuccessfully challenged Democrat Sen. Jeanne Shaheen in 2014.

President Donald Trump later appointed Brown U.S. ambassador to New Zealand, a post he held from 2017 to 2020.

Brown is now challenging former Sen. John Sununu for the Republican nomination to succeed Shaheen, who is retiring. Trump has endorsed Sununu, who represented New Hampshire in the U.S. Senate from 2003 to 2009 and holds a substantial lead in recent polls.

"The polls all season have been so far off they're almost laughable. We have been working for 17 months meeting and greeting all the folks around the state," Brown said on "Finnerty."

" I'm a ninth-generation son of the American Revolution. I've been working every single day, and John was away for 18 years," he continued.

"He was working for the World Economic Forum, you know, doing the big-banks, lobbyists, advising thing."

Brown said he isn't sure why Trump endorsed Sununu, especially when Sununu wrote an opinion piece in 2024 headlined "Donald Trump Is a Loser."

"I never really heard. It's probably people surrounding him," he said.

He cited the Senate Leadership Fund; Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.; Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D.; the National Republican Senatorial Committee; Americans for Prosperity; and Charles and David Koch.

"But I still support the president," Brown said, adding that Sununu "doesn't even have it on his website."

"He doesn't ever talk about it. I support like 95% of the stuff he does," he said.

Brown said he will be his own man and criticized Sununu for ducking debates.

"I'm the only independent guy who doesn't owe anybody anything. My only special interest are the people of New Hampshire, and it's resonating hugely," he said.

"He just recently ... ducked a debate at WMUR, which has never happened before," Brown continued.

"I love debating. I've always enjoyed it. And I'm getting ready for the next round to debate Chris Pappas," he said.

Brown questioned whether Sununu could effectively debate Rep. Chris Pappas, D-N.H., while standing up for New Hampshire's values. Pappas is the front-runner for the Democrat nomination for U.S. Senate and could face the Republican nominee in the general election.

"He can't. He's just been hiding around," Brown said.

"I beat the Kennedy family. I stopped the Democrat supermajority when Kennedy died, and they tried to get a Kennedy clone," he continued.

"This isn't a monarchy. This isn't about family legacy," Brown added.

"You have to do the New Hampshire way, which is to get out there and meet the people three, four, five times. And that's what I've been doing," he said. "People are kind of sick of the Shaheens, the Sununus, the Bushes, the Clintons; and they're ready to move on.

"And that's what we're hearing."
