Aunt Says 7-Year-Old Found Suspected Marijuana Inside Happy Meal Toy

A 7-year-old girl had finished her Happy Meal when she opened a small plastic house and told her aunt that someone had put "rocks" inside.

Brittany Fitzpatrick told FOX61 she took the toy from her niece. The material inside looked green and leafy, and Fitzpatrick believed it was marijuana.

The meal came from a McDonald's on South Main Street in Middletown, Connecticut, on Aug. 28. Fitzpatrick had taken her young children and niece for an after-school treat and brought the food home.

She kept the toy away from the girl and called Middletown Police. Police took the toy and its contents.

The family's hospital concern was hypothetical. Her mother, Shelby Winborne, said the girl knew not to put the material in her mouth, and no one was harmed. The adults were still trying to explain why something meant for adults had ended up in the girl's Happy Meal.

The toy came from a 12-piece Stranger Things: Tales of '85 lineup pairing characters with familiar settings, according to tms , which designed and sourced the collection. In a Facebook video , Fitzpatrick showed the green material inside the toy and said the toy had not arrived in a sealed bag.

"Thankfully, she knows not to just put everything in her mouth," Winborne told the station. She asked what might have happened with a younger child.

Fitzpatrick said she called the restaurant several times and contacted McDonald's corporate office. She told the station she had received neither an apology nor an explanation by the time its report aired.

Winborne said a restaurant manager told the family the staff did not know who could have put the material inside. CT Insider separately contacted a manager at the 611 South Main Street restaurant, who said the location was unaware of the incident. McDonald's corporate office did not immediately respond to the outlet.

Still With Police

Middletown Police told CT Insider the incident remained under investigation and that officers hoped to resolve it soon. FOX61 reported that the department's narcotics unit was handling the inquiry.

"If it happened to me, it could happen to someone else," Fitzpatrick said. "This is about children."
