COLD COURAGE
Series Premieres Exclusively in the US on AMC+ on Thursday, March 11
New York, NY– February 26, 2021– The AMC+ Exclusive Series Cold Courage , the Nordic crime thriller’s first three episodes will debut exclusively in the US on Thursday, March 11, with subsequent episodes released every Thursday.
Based on the award-winning and best-selling novels from Finnish journalist Pekka Hiltunen, Cold Courage follows two Nordic women – Mari ( Pihla Viitala, Deadwind, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters ), a fierce psychologist fighting for the underdog by any means necessary, and Lia ( Sofia Pekkari, The Sandhamn Murders , Wallander ), a shy graphic artist on the run from an abusive stalker – as they collide during a series of murders in present-day London.
As they are drawn together through a clandestine group called the “Studio,” they seek to right the wrongs of the powerful, influential and corrupt – starting with the dangerous, charismatic politician Arthur Fried ( John Simm, Doctor Who , Life on Mars ), looking to put the ‘Great’ back into Great Britain.
Cold Courage was adapted for the screen by BAFTA-nominated David Joss Buckley( Hinterland ) and Brendan Foley( Flying with Byrd ) and directed by Agneta Fagerström-Olsson( Wallander ) and Kadir Ferati Balci( A Good Year ). The series is produced by Luminoir, Nordic Entertainment Group, Potemkino Port, Vico Films and Sagafilm Nordic.
COLD COURAGE – EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS
Episode One – “Clean Skin” – Premieres Thursday, March 11
In London, Mari and Lia – two very different Nordic survivors of dark pasts – join a team of specialists, “The Studio”, to bring down those who value power over justice.
Episode Two – “Trojan Horse” – Premieres Thursday, March 11
Charismatic UK politician Arthur Fried’s populism may connect to the The Studio’s investigation of two violent immigrant-related deaths: a Muslim boy and a body the media calls The Faceless Woman.
Episode Three – “The Faceless Woman” – Premieres Thursday, March 11
Lia’s friend Nina, a sex trafficking victim, may connect to The Faceless Woman’s murder. The Studio follows a possible link between Fried’s campaign and a far-right terror group.
Episode Four – “A King from the East” – Premieres Thursday, March 18
Lia infiltrates Fried’s campaign but attracts more attention than she planned. Nina leads The Studio to a house holding abused sex slaves. Mari’s complex family secrets catch up with her.
Episode Five – “My Father’s House” – Premieres Thursday, March 25
Mari confides dark childhood secrets to Lia: Aarne’s near-fatal bullying by the warped Gerber Brothers. Police find another body and Lia knows the victim. Proximity to Fried proves increasingly fatal.
Episode Six – “Stench of Death” – Premieres Thursday, April 1
An interview designed to expose Fried backfires causing another woman’s disappearance. Kidnapped at gunpoint, Lia’s violent response surprises even her. She also faces an abusive stalker’s return.
Episode Seven – “Mari Says Hi” – Premieres Thursday, April 8
Election Day looms. Optimistic Fried faces ruthless powerbrokers from Mari’s past. Lia and Mari’s relationship fractures over the limits of revenge. An injured sex worker recognizes the voice of her attacker.
Episode Eight – “Said the Spider to the Fly” – Premieres Thursday, April 15
Mari solves her father’s murder. She puts Lia in harm’s way but then risks everything to save her. Fried’s victory ends in bloodshed. Lia and The Studio face a fight for survival.
