With over 5,500 allotment plots managed by, or on behalf of, the council and with over 8,000 people on allotment waiting lists, there is a huge demand for land and space for people to grow. As the project comes to an end we take a look back and celebrate the great work from volunteers and communities from all over this wild city!<br /> Wed, 29 Nov 2023 12:00:00 +0000 Alex Dommett https://www.avonwildlifetrust.org.uk/blog/alex-dommett/celebrating-my-wild-city-project State of Nature report - UK wildlife's devastating decline! https://www.avonwildlifetrust.org.uk/blog/george-cook/state-nature-report-uk-wildlifes-devastating-decline The UK’s wildlife is continuing to decline according to a new landmark study published on Wednesday. Already classified as one of the world’s most nature-depleted countries, nearly one in six of the more than ten thousand species assessed (16%) are at risk of being lost from Great Britain. Habitats are degrading and shrinking. Species are declining and even becoming extinct. Pollution is building in our ever-warming seas. The list goes on – and, when it comes to solutions, it’s hard to know where to start. So common was the spectacle, that starlings – alongside many other wildlife sights and sounds – were often taken for granted. Part of the backdrop alongside iconic city buildings. But now on winter’s evenings, Bristol’s skyline is mostly empty of starlings. You may see a few flitting between trees where they can, their iridescent feathers catching the fading light. But there’s no longer a mass aerial spectacle to watch on the way home. Thu, 06 Feb 2020 12:00:00 +0000 Naomi Fuller https://www.avonwildlifetrust.org.uk/blog/naomi-fuller/emergency-we-cant-ignore
