Enter our wildlife gardening competition 2024!

Hannah Bunn

Wildlife gardening is a bloomin' great way to help nature near you thrive. That's why we launched this wildlife gardening competition for the second year running! We want to see your blossoming balconies, small urban nature havens, sprawling back gardens, community patches, nature-friendly allotments, school outdoor spaces and everything in between.

This is all part of  Team Wilder , a growing movement of people who notice and celebrate nature in their day-to-day lives, taking super-local actions to tackle the ecological and environmental crisis as a collective.

How the competition works

  1. Choose which category describes you and your garden best: Individual, Community, or Education/School
  2. Submit your garden space here by 31 July 2024, where you'll be asked a few questions and have the opportunity to upload a photo or video to represent your entry - which must have been taken in the last 12 months.
  3. Three finalists from each category will be selected by our panel of judges, who will receive a visit from the Team Wilder Community Ecologist to chat about their wildlife garden and get some expert advice. A  professional photographerwill also attend, to take pictures which will then be used for the final public vote.
  4. The finalists will be put to a public vote, and the winner announced in the autumn. There will also be a prize for an outstanding entry, chosen by Avon Wildlife Trust.

A little more on what we're looking for...

Stephanie Chadwick

We are looking for places and spaces that wildlife love to visit. We're looking to see how you've used the space availableto you to attract nature to your local patch - and why!

Let's show what real wildlife gardens look like - beautiful garden spaces in all shapes and sizes, full of life!

Have you created a mini-meadow for pollinators? Do you have a pond that's buzzing with life? Are there safe spaces for wildlife to call home? You can do all this and more over the course of this spring and summer, and we have plenty of resource below to help you on your way.

At school does your eco club or gardening group plant bulbs and notice the insects? Are school classes and themes linked to nature? How are the school grounds managed?

Three entries will be shortlisted from each category, and will be visited by a photographer and Team Wilder Ecologist in August/September, to capture what’s special about the space for a public vote to choose the final winners.
