ASIAN SURGERY
Surgical procedures as outlined on other pages on this site are modified to address the different anatomy of the Asian eyelid and nose.
Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Half of eastern Asian patients have what is referred to as a single lid. These patients may wish to have a more open look by creating a double lid (ie eyelid crease). Some patients with a double lid (eyelid crease) may also want surgery to make the crease higher. An important consideration of surgery is to make these changes while still preserving the elegant shape and appearance of the Asian eyelid. The aim is not to "westernize" the eye with a deep set crease.

In addition surgery can be offered for patients who may wish to eliminate the fold in the inner corner of the eye referred to as the epicanthal fold. This can be done as an isolated procedure or as part of the double eyelid procedure.

Nasal surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Common features of the Asian nose are that the bridge is relatively flat, the tip and nostrils may be wide and the tip is often under projected (close to the face). Surgery is usually aimed to make the bridge of the nose ‘stronger' (ie further out from the face -augmentation rhinoplasty) while trying to obtain a narrower, refined tip and in some cases narrowing the nostrils.

Surgical changes are made by placing grafts under the skin using your own cartilage or use of a synthetic implant material such as goretex. Other implant materials may also be considered.
