PHUKET– A family’s holiday season has turned into a living nightmare after a violent encounter in Phuket left a local man fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The victim’s wife has now stepped forward, making an emotional plea for justice and questioning the pace of the police investigation.
On the evening of April 12, 2026, while many were celebrating the Songkran festival, 38-year-old Weerasak Mudlee was driving near the Marine Plaza market in the Patong district of Kathu. According to police records and statements from the victim before his condition worsened, the trouble began when a group of foreign nationals allegedly splashed water into his vehicle.
When Weerasak stopped his car to confront the group about the incident, the situation quickly turned violent. He reported to investigators that a group of four to five foreign men launched a brutal assault against him. The attack was so severe that Weerasak was left with life-threatening injuries and had to be rushed to the hospital.
A Wife’s Desperate Search for Answers
Images of Weerasak lying in an ICU bed, surrounded by monitors and life-support equipment, have circulated widely on social media , sparking outrage among the local community. His wife, whose name has been withheld for privacy, expressed her deep frustration over the perceived lack of progress by the authorities.
“I have to ask, if the roles were reversed and the victim was a foreign tourist, would the police be working faster?” she asked during her appeal to local media. She remains at her husband’s bedside, waiting for any sign of recovery while demanding that those responsible be held accountable.
The Patong police have confirmed that a formal complaint was filed and that they are currently working to identify the suspects involved in the assault. However, as of April 19, no arrests have been made, and the identities of the foreign nationals have not been released to the public.
Investigators are reportedly reviewing CCTV footage from the Marine Plaza area and interviewing witnesses who were present during the Songkran festivities. The challenge remains in identifying individuals in a crowded tourist area during one of the busiest weeks of the year.
Key Details of the Case:
- Victim:Weerasak Mudlee, 38 years old.

This case highlights ongoing tensions in major tourist hubs regarding the behavior of visitors and the protection of residents. For a fair and balanced report, it is essential to look at the official Khaosod English reportage, which emphasizes the legal procedures currently underway.
Legal experts suggest that cases involving foreign nationals can often be complex due to potential flight risks. The community is now watching closely to see if the Patong police will utilize all available resources to secure an arrest before the suspects can leave the country.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on Weerasak’s health and the hope that justice will be served for a family whose lives were changed in an instant during what should have been a time of celebration.
