A variety of student groups offer opportunities to get involved and make a difference outside the classroom, and several student councils foster communication and participation throughout the School.

The Great Outdoors

Hanover and the surrounding area offer numerous opportunities for four-season outdoor adventure and recreation . The Connecticut River is just one of many nearby bodies of water , where you can swim, canoe, or kayak. With nearby mountains and trails, you can rock-climb, bike, camp, ski, snow-shoe, and hike, including on the Appalachian Trail , which directly passes through Hanover.

Sports & Recreation

Dartmouth’s extensive indoor athletic facilities—including running tracks, tennis courts, ice arena, Olympic-size pool, dance studios, weight room, basketball, squash, and racquetball courts, and more—help students stay healthy and active. Cheer on the Big Green all four seasons at Ivy League games. Race down the slopes at the Dartmouth Skiway and serene, cross-country ski at Dartmouth’s Oak Hill Outdoor Center —or check out other top-rated ski resorts in NH and VT .

Arts & Culture

The Hopkins Center for the Arts and the Hood Museum of Art are the hubs for the performing, visual, and creative arts at Dartmouth. Affectionately known as the "The Hop," the Hopkins Center is northern New England's premiere center for the performing arts, drawing some of the world's finest ensembles in music, film, theater, and dance. Comprised of 15 public galleries, numerous classrooms, research, and conversation spaces, the Hood exhibits culturally diverse art and artists and serves as a permanent home for Dartmouth's fine art collections.

Graduate Housing Options

Dartmouth Real Estate Office manages more than 500 on- and off-campus rental housing within several miles of campus, with many units available only to matriculated Dartmouth graduate students. Accommodations range from studio apartments to single-family homes.
