The Belfast hip-hop group KNEECAP play themselves in this raucous and funny origin story, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures.
Hop Film NowSchoolteacher JJ lives a quiet life, teaching the Irish language by day and drumming in his garage by night. When fate brings the self-confessed 'low life scum' Naoise & Liam Og into his orbit, the needle drops on a hip-hop act like no other.
Rapping in their native Irish language, KNEECAP fast became the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights movement to save their mother tongue. But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries and politicians trying to silence their defiant sound, whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies.
The first Irish-language feature to play at Sundance, this fiercely original biopic set in post-troubles Belfast co-stars Michael Fassbender as Naoise's renegade father, who inspires with his commitment to the Irish cause. Blending truth with print-the-legend fiction, this delightfully spiky and irreverent comedy bridges political substance and crowd-pleasing entertainment.
