The Asbury String Quartet is the premier string chamber ensemble of the DePauw University School of Music. To be a member is an honor and each member receives a scholarship in exchange for their hard work and dedication to their music. The Quartet rehearses for six hours per week and is coached by Dr. Nicole Brockmann.

ABOUT THE MUSICClaude Debussy's only work for string quartet showcases French Impressionist music at its finest with its search for "pleasure in the moment" through the composer's focus on the "supremacy of musical color over form and design," and serves as a bridge between traditional classical music and classical music in the 20th century.

Gabriela Lena Frank is one of 35 of the most significant women composers of classical music, according to the Washington Post. Born in Berkeley, California, to a mother of mixed Peruvian/Chinese ancestry and a father of Lithuanian/Jewish descent, Frank explores her multicultural heritage most ardently through her compositions. "Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout for string quartet draws inspiration from the idea of mestizaje as envisioned by the Peruvian writer José María Arguedas, where cultures can coexist without the subjugation of one by the other. As such, this piece mixes elements from the western classical and Andean folk music traditions." ~ Gabriela Lena Frank
