The UFTAA Board has called upon the former Secretary General Birger Bäckman to ad-interim rejoin the management of the organization in the capacity of Executive Administrator from May 15, 2015. Mr Bäckman was an UFTAA Board member from 1994-1997, then Secretary General/CEO fro 1997-2005, and Senior Advisor to the President and the Board from 2005-2010 when he retired. He was elected as an UFTAA Honorary Board Member in 2014.
Having been in the airline and travel industry from 1959, he has extensive experience with particular emphasis on the airline industry and IATA. During his years in office, he won worldwide respect for his attitude, and search for positive solutions rather than litigation and conflicts.
The Executive Administrator is the focal point for contacts to all members, and he reports directly to the President of UFTAA.
