The government of India has announced the decision to evacuate all of Indian nationals “who wish to leave” Israel due to the military conflict between the Jewish state and Iran.
Today, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (Foreign Ministry) urged all Indian citizens in Israel to register with the country’s embassy located in Tel Aviv.
“In view of the recent developments between Israel and Iran, the Government of India has decided to evacuate from Israel those Indian nationals who wish to leave. Their travel from Israel to India will be facilitated through the land borders and thereafter by air to India,” the ministry said in its official press release.
Embassy of India in Tel Aviv urged Indian citizens in the country to stay alert and adhere closely to the safety protocols established by the Israeli authorities and the Home Front Command.
According to the Indian embassy, there are approximately 18,000 Indian nationals residing in Israel, mainly working as caregivers for elderly Israelis. Additionally, the country is home to diamond traders, IT specialists, and students. Furthermore, there are around 85,000 Jews of Indian descent living in Israel.
India has also started evacuating its citizens from Iran.
According to the Indian officials, there are over 4,000 Indian nationals currently in Iran, with approximately half of them being students.
As stated by the Foreign Ministry, 110 students in Tehran were transported overland to the neighboring Armenia earlier this week. “The students have journeyed by road to the Armenian capital, Yerevan, under the oversight of our Missions in both Iran and Armenia,” the ministry reported yesterday
The students arrived in India early in the morning today.
India, which maintains close and friendly relations with both Israel and Iran, has urged both countries to refrain from any further escalation.
