Chattogram, Bangladesh– The World Tourism Network (WTN) continues to reaffirm its global commitment to social responsibility, placing special emphasis on supporting orphaned children through meaningful community initiatives.
In the sacred month of Ramadan—a time that embodies compassion, generosity, reflection, and unity—the WTN Bangladesh Chapter organized a heartfelt Iftar gathering for orphaned children on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Hotel Agrabad.
Iftaris the evening meal Muslims break their daily fast with at sunset during Ramadan. Throughout the holy month, observers fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food and drink as an act of spiritual discipline, gratitude, and empathy for those less fortunate. Iftar is therefore not only a meal, but also a moment of community, sharing, and compassion—often bringing families, friends, and communities together around one table.
The initiative was led by Dr. H. M. Hakim Ali, Chairman of the Bangladesh Chapter, whose longstanding dedication to social welfare continues to inspire the hospitality and tourism community throughout the region. More than 100 orphaned children were welcomed to an evening filled with warmth, celebration, and thoughtful care. The children enjoyed a specially curated Iftar buffet, traditional Ramadan sweets, and a joyful atmosphere designed to make them feel valued and cherished.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ali emphasized the profound importance of giving back to society, particularly during Ramadan.
“While this gesture may seem modest,” he said, “its intention is deeply meaningful—to share happiness and create lasting memories for children who deserve care, dignity, and opportunity. Our purpose is not only to serve meals, but to serve hope, joy, and a sense of belonging. If even for a single evening, we can bring smiles to these young faces, then we have fulfilled a meaningful part of our responsibility.”
The children expressed heartfelt gratitude, describing the evening as uplifting and unforgettable. Their smiles and appreciation stood as the most powerful testament to the impact of the event.
Juergen Steinmetz, Global Chairman of WTN, extended his sincere thanks to Dr. Ali for his continued leadership and compassion.
“In today’s uncertain and troubling times, your initiative every year is not only appreciated, but it shapes what we at the World Tourism Network stand for—peace, human interaction, and global networking,” Steinmetz said. “Thank you for your effort that is making a huge difference.”
With 33,000+ members across 133 countries and a rapidly expanding global presence, the World Tourism Network consistently demonstrates that tourism leadership extends far beyond business. It encompasses compassion, community engagement, and collective responsibility.
The Iftar program in Chattogram stands as a shining example of how the tourism sector can contribute meaningfully to society while fostering goodwill, unity, and hope—values that resonate deeply during Ramadan and beyond.
As WTN continues its outreach for the good of our travel and tourism industry worldwide, the Bangladesh Chapter’s initiative reflects the true spirit of tourism: connecting people, uplifting communities, and building a more compassionate global future.
