If the new projects come through, it will be a positive signal for the state of Uttarakhand , which has been in the news for the wrong reasons in recent months. There was much criticism of the handling of popular events like the Kumbh Mela, a major pilgrimage and festival in Hinduism, which led to spread of the dreaded COVID-19. Events such as the Kanwar Yatra, an annual pilgrimage of devotees of Shiva, that were scheduled to be held were stopped in the nick of time, succumbing to intervention to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
The state has sought RS1400 crore aid for the projects, which may finance 5 of the tourism projects. Help may also come in the form of a Japanese development agency to fund some of the projects. Once the projects are identified, detailed project reports will be prepared for approval and funding.
If these projects materialize, it will be a triple win-win-win situation for all concerned – the state, tourism stakeholders, and tourists as well, by providing safe and healthy destinations to enjoy.
