Reading by 3rd Grade

Outcomes

  • By June 2026, students reading by third grade will increase from 82% to 87% as measured by the grade 3 Reading SOL.
  • By June 2026, Multilingual Learners reading by 3rd grade (SOL) will improve from 67% to 72%, measured by the Reading SOL.

Strategies

  • Utilize routines and explicit instruction to intensify phonics and word study instruction in alignment with the core curriculum (ex. ECRI, Lexia, implementation guide resources).
  • Increase the use of data to plan tier 3 instruction and monitor progress during intervention to ensure that students master foundational skills (ex. MTSS Schoolwide/Intervention teams, Reading Plans, Walk to Intervention).

Elementary School Math

Outcomes

  • By June 2026, the annual pass rate for all students (grades 3-6) will improve from 88% to 93% as measured by the grades 3-6 math SOL.
  • By June 2026, the annual pass rate for students with disabilities (SWD, grades 3-6) will increase from 58% to 63% as measured by the grades 3-6 math SOL.

Strategies

  • Improve teachers implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.
  • Improve the integrity of implementation of core curriculum, and/or intervention programs by using FCPS-adopted resources with fidelity to align with the Framework for Engaging & Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.

Outcomes

By June 2026, students will demonstrate measurable growth on the SEL Screener in the areas of Social Awareness & Relationship Skills and Sense of Belonging. Specifically:

  • Grades 3–5: Social Awareness & Relationship Skills will improve from 63% to 73%; Sense of Belonging will improve from 62% to 72%.
  • Grade 6: Social Awareness & Relationship Skills will improve from 68% to 78%; Sense of Belonging will improve from 72% to 82%.

Strategies

  • Staff regularly model social and emotional competencies in their interactions with others, to include interactions with students, families, and one another.
