Going Green at Carson - Revitalize, Restore, Replant!
Get2Green leads, Ms. Bickford and Ms. Walsh, are thrilled to share that during the last week of October, Carson MS collaborated with ecologists from Fairfax County’s Watershed Education & Outreach to bring the R3 (Revitalize, Restore, Replant) program to Carson.
The R3 program transforms existing stormwater facilities on FCPS campuses into outdoor classrooms. Over a two day period at Carson, over 250 students participated in planting a pollinator garden with Virginia natives like Blue Flag Irises, Juncus, Swamp Milkweed, Coneflower, and Blue False Indigo. Over 1,200 plants were planted! In addition, all students learned about stormwater and watershed ecosystem management and how a garden can help.
When you are next at Carson, stop by the new garden located outside of A pod. (If you are looking at the school, A pod is on the left side of the building.) Going Green students will help to maintain the garden by adding mulch, watering, and weeding throughout the school year.
Go Green! Together WE can make a difference.
