Permit & Permit Testing

To obtain your permit:

Must be at least 15 years and 6 months old
Must complete a two-part exam
- Signs: 10 signs, must score 100%
- Knowledge: 30 questions, must score 80%
  - The exam is available in multiple languages
Must pass a vision test
Documents proving residency and legal presence presented to DMV
Must have a parent/guardian present
Must have a learner’s permit for a minimum of 9 months for licensing

For Chantilly High School Students ONLY
Must be 15 years and 6 months
Register at least 2 days prior to the testing date
First 2 attempts of the Permit Test may be taken at Chantilly High School
Arrive on time with FCPS issued computer, completed DTS-41 form and receipt of registration on the testing date.

3-step registration:
- Register and Pay for the test at ACE
- Register with the DMV for a Test Ticket
- Download, fill out, print and bring with you on the day of the test the DTS-41 form (also available in Room 567)
