Miss Mac Nominations

Though Clermont is filled with exceptional teachers and staff, an award was established in 2008 to recognize an employee who has gone above and beyond for our students.

The Miss Mac award is named in memory of Clermont kindergarten aide Ashley McIntosh.

The award recognizes a Clermont staff member who exemplifies the values Miss McIntosh brought to her teaching.

All Clermont teachers and staff who have not won The Miss Mac Award in the last 7 years are eligible for this award.

The deadline for nominations is Monday, May 18, 2026.

We will evaluate all the submissions and present the award and  a check for $500  to the recipient at the final Clermont Elementary staff meeting of the school year!

For more information about the Miss Mac Award, nominee criteria, and to submit your nominations visit the PTA website:  https://clermontpta.membershiptoolkit.com/miss-mac-award

Cellphone Policy update
  • New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1

On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) . The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cellphone policy with Senate Bill 108 . This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.

This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.

Other SR&R Changes for the 2026-27 School Year

Visit the FCPS website or the School Board agenda to learn about additional updates, including:

  • Added guidance and procedures for in-school and out-of-school suspensions and discipline investigations, including supports for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
  • Expanded guidance and standardized disciplinary procedures (“Universal Grade Matrices”) related to harassment, hate speech, discriminatory behavior, and Title IX reporting requirements.
  • Responses to incidents involving intimate images, fighting, physical aggression, object throwing, and drug policy violations.

Immunizations

The following immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grade each school year.

All students entering 7th gradeare required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine

  • To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
  • To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
  • To meet the HPV requirement, the vaccination should be given between the ages of 11 to 12 or as early as 9 years old.
    •  As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child will not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and health care providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.

Immunization Events for FCPS StudentsFCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will provide school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students at no out-of-pocket cost. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.

Dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents/guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student . Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.

Calendar Class Placement Feedback

For Parents/Guardians of Clermont K – 5 Students:

As we begin to look forward to next school year, I am sending you this optional form to gather your input regarding your child’s class placement for next year. This optional form is a place where you can share your overall knowledge of your child and their unique traits. The class placement process is approached very methodically, and many variables are considered by school staff. If you have more than one child at Clermont, please complete a separate form for each child. There are many factors that are considered when classes are formed.  We will consider the parent/guardian information when making class placement decisions, but cannot guarantee that all parent/guardian requests can be honored.

When completing the form, I ask that you:

  • PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST A TEACHER BY NAME. We cannot honor requests for specific teachers.
  • Share the qualities of a teacher and classroom environment that would best meet your child’s needs.
  • Let us know if you feel that your child should be separated from another student. We will take that request into consideration. Please remember that best friends are not a consideration for placement, and do not necessarily belong in the same instructional group.
  • Please do not include negative information about past teachers, as the teachers may read these forms when assisting with class assignments.

If you are interested in sharing this information,  please complete the optional form below and submit it by Friday, May 8, 2026. Requests will only be accepted through this form, and the form will close on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Calendar No Dogs on School Grounds

Dear Clermont Families,

At Clermont, our primary goal is to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all students and staff during arrival, dismissal, and throughout the school day. To maintain this environment, we would like to remind our community of the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) policy regarding animals on school grounds.

FCPS regulations strictly prohibit dogs and other pets on school property. This includes sidewalks, playgrounds, blacktops, and grassy areas. This is especially important during the busy windows of arrival and dismissal.

  • Student and Staff Safety:Even the most well-behaved pets can become overwhelmed by the noise and crowds of hundreds of children. Unfortunately, we had an incident this morning where a staff member was nipped by a dog while on duty.We must prevent further injuries.
  • Respecting Allergies and Fears:We have many students and staff members with significant allergies or a genuine fear of dogs. Every child and staff member deserve to enter the building feeling comfortable and secure.
  • Sanitation and Maintenance:Our small but mighty custodial team is dedicated to keeping our play areas clean. We do not have the staffing to manage pet waste, which poses a health hazard to students playing in the grass.

We kindly ask that you do not walk your dog to schoolwhen dropping off or picking up your children. If you are walking to school with your pet, please say your goodbyes at the edge of the school property line rather than bringing them onto the campus or near the parking lot and crosswalks.

We love our furry friends, but for the safety and comfort of our Eagles, they must stay at home. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep our school a safe place for everyone.

Sincerely,

Ms. Salata, Principal

April Calendar Changes

Dr. Reid shared some changes to the elementary school calendar for April. Due to the newly announced special election on Tuesday, April 21, many of our FCPS schools will serve as polling locations so our schools will be closed for students that day.

Because students will not be in school, April 21 is now scheduled as a teacher workday and staff development day.

With that in mind, and the consideration of school cancellations and delays due to weather,  the previously scheduled elementary early release day for Wednesday, April 22 will be converted to a full day of instruction.Students will have a traditional full day of instruction and will be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22.

This adjustment allows for our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days.

Kudos to Mrs. Cangro

Please join us in congratulating Clermont’s librarian, Mrs. Kannan Cangro, for being named 2026 Potomac Region Librarian of the Year! Mrs. Cangro was surprised by this honor on Saturday, March 14, at the Potomac Spring Regional Conference in Gainesville, Virginia. Congrats, Mrs. Cangro!

Odyssey of the Mind Champs!

This winter, Clermont had 5 teams participate in Odyssey of the Mind Tournament at the Regional Level. Of the 5 teams, one team placed 6th, two teams placed 4th, and one team received first place! The first place team is a group of 3rd and 4th grade students, and they competed in the Virginia State tournament last weekend... and earned 2nd place! This grants them a seat in the OOTM World Finals in Iowa in May. Congrats to all of our students who participated, and thanks to Coach Jen, Coach Rosario, and all of the parent coaches for supporting our students.

Visitors who choose to download the  RaptorSafe App  and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use to check in.

Measles

Fairfax County Health Department Measles Update

Measles is a highly contagious virus that infects 9 out of 10 people who are exposed, if unvaccinated or not immune. It has been in the news lately due to cases in Northern Virginia and among people who have traveled through local airports.

If your spring break or summer plans include traveling abroad or to an area in the United States with high measles activity, the Fairfax County Health Department encourages you to ensure your family is protected. Children 12 months and older should have 1 or 2 doses before traveling. Depending on your specific travel plans, your health care provider may also advise you to vaccinate infants 6 to 11 months old. Read more about these recommendations

Community Conversations

Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid

PTA Silent Auction 2026

Dear Clermont Families,

The PTA Silent Auction is officially OPEN— and this is our biggest year ever!

With an incredible $37,216 in total auction value, this is the highest-value auction in Clermont history. 🎉 That means more experiences, more getaways, more teacher treasures, and more chances to win — all while supporting our students.

Don’t wait — start bidding now!

⏰ The auction closes during the Silent Auction Gala on Saturday, March 7th.

Bid early. Bid often. Let’s make this our most successful year yet!

👉 Check out the Action Catalog nowby clicking the “Auction Catalog”tab at: ClermontPTA2026.auctria.events

Tips!

  • Ensure your credit card is registered with your auction account.
  • Pay attention to the ways to bid on each item.
    • Single Winner
    • Multiple Winners
    • Buy-it-now
  • Set Your Maximum Bid: Would you like to bid and have future bids for the same item automatic if outbid by someone else? Maximum Bidding provides a mechanism to keep the actual bid as low as possible yet provide a path to remain the winning bidder (on single winner items). With maximum bidding, you become the winner if you are the highest bidder at the auction's close. As the winner, with maximum bidding, you will only pay the lowest possible winning bid, which may not be the maximum bid you placed for the item.
  • Keep checking your email and text messagesor the Silent Auction Website to see if you have been outbid.

School Breakfast Week

Celebrating the Power of School Breakfast

Multiple studies show that school breakfasts are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.

This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Would you like to know what’s for breakfast? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.

Pre-K and Early Head Start

Pre-K and Early Head Start Programs

FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children with economic and educational risk factors, ages 6 weeks to 4 years, living in Fairfax County.

  • Pre-K prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children who will be 3 years old by September 30 of the same year.
  • Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from pregnancy to 2 years old.

Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; space is limited and provided based on need, not on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applications are accepted online , by email , by mail, or in person at the program office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042 .

If you have a question about the application process or status, please call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).

New Visitor Management System

New Visitor Management SystemWe are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

Message from our Principals

Dear Clermont Families,

We survived the freeze! Thank you for your cooperation in keeping arrival and dismissal sound and accident-free during this week’s icy weather. It’s always great to see our Clermont Community band together to keep our students safe.

Since freezing temperatures are forecasted to continue, please keep the following in mind for next week:

  • Use Kiss & Ride:If you drive a vehicle to pick up or drop off a student, please continue using the designated car line. To ensure student safety and traffic flow, refrain from parking on Clermont Drive, side streets, or the cul-de-sac.* Safety First:Large ice mounds are blocking visibility, making it difficult to see small children.
  • Traffic Flow:Please remember to turn rightwhen exiting the parking lot during busy times.

Our popular PTA Science Festival is back this Wednesday, Feb 11. This event received rave reviews last year, and Wwe hope to see you there!

Want to help? Volunteer to run a station here .

We offer beginning English classes for adults, early learning environments for children two to five years of age and enrichment classes for children K-8th grade. While the parents are acquiring English language skills and learning how to support their children’s education, their children are participating in learning activities in separate classrooms. If you have any families that you feel could benefit from this program,  please contact us via email and we will send you a QR code with a link that you can print and/or share with your families. The QR code is linked to a google form survey that parents can fill out. Our office will then contact each family and invite them to one of our classes.
