What is "This is Us!"?

At Cub Run Elementary, one of our greatest strengths is the different cultures and traditions that walk through our doors every morning. We believe that every family brings something unique to our community, and now it’s time to celebrate it!

We are excited to invite you to "This is Us!",a special community event dedicated to learning more about the various cultures and heritages that make up Cub Run.

We Need Your Story!

We are looking for families who would like to share a piece of their world with our students and neighbors. Whether your roots are right here in Virginia or started elsewhere, we want to learn from you.

Things you might consider sharing:

• Family Traditions:The unique rituals or holidays that make your family "you."
• Home Country Culture:The customs and flavors of the place you call home.
• Ancestral Heritage:The history and traditions passed down through generations.
• A Place You’ve Lived:The culture of a city, state, or country that left a mark on your life before moving here.

This event is about more than just a display; it’s about building bridges, sparking curiosity, and making every student feel proud of who they are.

Ready to Join the Celebration? 

Come help us turn Cun Run into a vibrant map of our collective experiences! We have four exciting ways for your family to get involved and share your story with the Cub Run community!

Here are some suggested ways you can participate:

Cultural Share Fair (Cafeteria)Design a tabletop display that captures the essence of your heritage. Think of it as a mini museum of your life! You might include:

• Visuals:Photos, posters, or maps of significant places.
• Artifacts:Arts, crafts, traditional clothing, or currency.
• Interaction:Books or games for others to explore.

Note: Please avoid bringing valuables or sharp objects. Items will be handled by guests, and the school cannot be responsible for loss or damage.

Performance or Demonstration (Front Lobby or Cafeteria Stage)Take the spotlight for up to three minutes! Show us a skill, art form, or talent that represents your background. This could be:

• Playing a traditional instrument or singing a song.
• Performing a cultural dance.
• A live demonstration of a family craft or unique skill.

Food & Drink Samples (Cafeteria)Share a taste of home! Provide bite-sized samples of a savory dish, sweet treat, or traditional beverage.

• Serving:Please bring finger-food portions and provide your own napkins, cups, or utensils.
• Safety:All items must be prepared off-site. You must display a clear, detailed list of ingredients for guests with allergies.

Parade of Families (Cafeteria Stage)Let the kids shine! Children are invited to walk across the stage in traditional attire or clothing that represents their family's culture and history in our grand finale parade.

If you would like to share about your family's culture and/or traditions with the Cub Run community, you can fill out the Google Form below or return the the bottom half of the flyer that came home in your child's Wednesday folder.
