Good Afternoon Fox Mill Families,

Today, our sixth graders—and our talented staff—will showcase their skills at the South Lakes High School gym as they take on Sunrise Valley Elementary School in a friendly basketball game. This exciting event is a wonderful opportunity for students and staff to demonstrate teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit while enjoying a fun and supportive community competition. Our students and teachers are ready after an exciting pep rally at school today.

On Tuesday, half of our fifth-grade students went to Potomac Overlook Regional Park based on the Get2 Green FCPs initiative to learn about ecosystems and how they keep populations in balance. We enjoyed a nature walk to learn about the resources the population in the park has to offer. Students enjoyed a populations gam called “Oh Deer!” where they enacted deer populations overtime as they fought for resources.

On Thursday, our second graders visited the Science Center, where they had a wonderful opportunity to engage in hands-on STEM activities. Students explored interactive exhibits, asked thoughtful questions, and discovered how science, technology, engineering, and math connect to the world around them. It was an exciting day of learning that sparked curiosity and encouraged our young scientists to think, explore, and experiment!

Please see the message below on behalf of the Sixth Grade Team and PTA:

What: The Annual FMES 6th Grade Talent Show

When: Thursday, February 26 AND Friday, February 27 at 6:30pm (doors open at 6:00pm)

Where: Fox Mill Cafeteria

Come and watch a great show! The 6th graders have been working hard for months, and they are ready!

Before the show, we would like to ask each parent to remind their child(ren) of good audience behavior. A good audience member shows respect for the performers, does not get up in the middle of an act, does not yell or play games during a performance, and claps and cheers for every act. We’d also like each audience member to clean up after themselves so that the adult volunteers do not have to after the show ends.

We hope to make these evening performances memorable and enjoyable for all. Thank you for your cooperation!

Good Afternoon Fox Mill Families,

It has been a wonderful week at school, and we are especially grateful for the recent rain. While we don’t always celebrate rainy weather, this time it helped wash away much of the snow and ice, allowing us to look forward to returning to our normal outdoor recess routines in the coming week.

This week also marked the beginning of Ramadan. As an inclusive school community, we recognize that some of our students and families are observing this important and sacred time. We are mindful of their needs and are committed to supporting them with understanding, respect, and care throughout this month.

Our third graders visited the Natural History Museum, where the exhibits connected perfectly to their science unit on animal adaptation and their social studies unit on Ancient Egypt. We are grateful to our dedicated chaperones who joined our teachers and helped make this meaningful learning experience possible.

We look forward to seeing you at the Sneaker Ball Dance Party tonight from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM! Please remember that students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must remain present for the entire duration of the dance. Show your usual Fox Mill spirit and support, and let’s have a ball! See you tonight!

A FEW UPDATES

New Visitor Management SystemWe are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office. But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check in at school.  If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Dear Fox Mill Families,

We hope you had a wonderful week!  We were so happy to see our kindergarten students bring their boots and enjoy some time playing in what’s left of the snow. Their excitement and laughter made for a joyful end to the week.

Students enjoyed exchanging valentines with their classmates, participating in themed games and activities, and sharing special treats together. It was heartwarming to see their kindness, creativity, and excitement as they celebrated friendship and community.

Thank you for your support in helping make events like this so special. We are so proud of how respectful, joyful, and inclusive our students were throughout the celebration.

We hope your child came home with happy memories (and maybe a few extra treats!).

A FEW UPDATES

Safety and Parking Update

Please be aware that he parking spaces located in the bus loop in front of the school have now been marked. There is one handicap-accessible space and one designated visitor space available. We kindly ask that these spaces be used appropriately and kept available for those who need them.  Additional visitor parking is available in the main school parking lot and along the surrounding streets. Please remain vigilant when visiting the school or attending field trips with your child. Your attention to safety helps ensure a safe environment for everyone.

At dismissal time, students who are designated as walkers are expected to walk directly home and not remain in front of the school to play. When students stay and play in front of the school, it becomes difficult for staff to identify which children have not yet been picked up. For safety reasons, children should not cross the bus loop unsupervised, as there continues to be traffic flow in the bus loop even after dismissal.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep all students safe.

SR and R Survey

Survey on Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) Now Open for All Families and Middle and High School Students

On Monday, all FCPS parents/caregivers and middle and high school students received an email to participate in a voluntary and confidential survey. (Please check your spam folder if you have not received it.)

Questions refer to proposed changes to FCPS’ SR&R document for next year. This document outlines the rules that students are expected to follow, and guidelines for consequences if those expectations are not met. Possible changes include:

  • Universal Discipline:Charts will list consequences and supports for students. They will help ensure that two students of the same grade will be treated fairly and receive the same level of support.
  • Standards for In-School Suspensions of Students with Disabilities:Creating standards for how in-school suspensions are handled for students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 Plan.
  • Accommodations for Multilingual Learner Student Statements:Providing translation accommodations when Multilingual Learner students provide statements about disciplinary incidents.

The survey will be open until Friday, February 20. Survey materials are available online .
