“Annualized Use per Area” = “Energy Use Intensity (EUI)” in EnergyCAP
- Both metrics use the same formula: Total energy used over a 12 - month period divided by the building’s square footage.
- EnergyCAP calls this “Annualized Use per Area” because it literally describes the calculation.
- The energy industry calls the same calculation Energy Use Intensity (EUI).
- The terms differ, but the metric is identical: a normalized measure of how much energy a building uses per square foot per year.
