Global Classroom Project
What is the Global Classroom Project?
The Global Classroom Project (GCP) provides learning experiences to meet the needs of every learner. Teachers design instruction to engage, empower, include, and challenge all students. They do this through a variety of learning opportunities. Students collaborate with peers from around the world on authentic tasks. Students develop the knowledge, skills and behaviors to engage in collective action. This includes issues on the local, national, and global level. Students learn Portrait of a Graduate attributes and use these skills as they work with global partners. Participation in the GCP prepares students to be innovative global citizens. They collaborate to identify solutions for positive impact on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their communities and beyond.
How can we create an economy that is both resilient and fair for workers across the world?
Students will compare the economic challenges of the Great Depressionwith modern-day labor issues linked to globalization, such as sweatshops and fair trade. They will explore how policies like the New Dealhelped reshape labor rights and consider how fair trade and ethical consumerism could play a similar role today.
Student Action- What are students doing as collective action to make an impact on one or more SDGs? Students will take collective action by:
- Investigating:Researching labor conditions during the Great Depression and in modern sweatshops.
- Raising Awareness:Creating digital posters, short videos, or social media campaigns about fair wages, ethical production, and SDG #8.
- Advocating for Change:Reaching out to local businesses or school cafeterias to encourage the use of fair trade-certified products.
- Simulating Economic Policies:Holding a classroom debate where they design and defend policies that balance economic growth with fair labor practices.
