ORCHESTRA:

The Glasgow MS Orchestra program is made up of over 260 enthusiastic young musicians across five different orchestras of all ability levels.  The Orchestra program proudly features a constant whirlwind of activity, including a recruiting tour in December to four of Glasgow’s feeder elementary schools where students performed alongside Justice HS for crowds of smiling fifth graders.  The Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras are in the middle of their assessment season, just having performed their Pre-Assessment concert on February 24 at Justice HS to get ready for their Concert Assessment on March 14 at Hayfield SS.  Meanwhile, the Cadet, Concert, and Classical orchestras have been hard at work preparing for their upcoming Festival Concert performance on March 25.

Orchestra students are excited to celebrate Music in Our Schools Month throughout March with a spirit week for all students, a challenging composition competition, a March Madness bracket open to all Glasgow students, and plenty of new and different types of music to explore.

BAND:

The Glasgow Band Program includes almost 300 student musicians across several ensembles, offering students the chance to grow as performers at every stage of their musical development. Throughout the year, band students are actively involved in performances, festivals, and enrichment opportunities that build both musical skill and confidence. Glasgow bands have been featured at the VMEA Conference and the Mid-Atlantic Concert Band Festival, highlighting the dedication and hard work of our students.

During Music in Our Schools Month, band students celebrate by diving into new and diverse repertoire, collaborating closely in rehearsals, and continuing to build a strong sense of community through music. The band program at Glasgow is a place where students are challenged, supported, and encouraged to take pride in their progress as musicians.

CHORUS:

Glasgow's Chorus program has been busy with a bunch of wonderful performances and events taking place during this time of year! All of our advanced students just finished up their guest performance at the Justice High School Broadway desserts concert. Each group performed a song with choreography and solos! Check out the video on YouTube to see our wonderful students' performances!

We are excited to continue our busy season with the Beginning Chorus concert at Annandale High School on Tuesday, March 24 th and with our Pre-Assessment concert at Justice High School on Tuesday, March 10th. We hope to see families and friends in attendance at all of our upcoming events!

MUSIC DEPT ALL

Open to all interested students, The Glasgow Music Department is constantly growing with over 750 hard working musicians who perform over 20 concerts in a school year across three different disciplines.  In addition to studying and performing a wide range of music, students involved in the music department gain numerous other benefits including increased confidence and creativity, improved collaboration, and above average academic success.  Music Department concerts are free and open to the public and all members of the Glasgow community are welcome to join us for our performances.

The directors of the Glasgow Music Department are Andrew Sharrock and Tammy Freeman - Band, Amanda Mossey and Khoa Nguyen - Orchestra, and Desi Hatzakos - Chorus.
