Student Survey Form

Dear GBW Families,

Although the beginning of the next school year may seem far away, we are already planning for classroom assignments for the 2026-2027 school year. To assist in this process, each year we like to provide families the opportunity to share information about their child by completing the Student Survey.  Your feedback will be shared with the entire committee (principal, assistant principal, classroom teachers, counselors, support staff & specialists) when we collaboratively make our class placements.

Please note that we do not accept requests for a particular teacher.

When our committee makes our class placements, we will use a complex set of data including academic needs, social / emotional / behavioral needs, teacher feedback, and will also include parent feedback from this form.  Our commitment to the community is that we will read and consider this feedback when making class placements so that we ensure all students are successful next year.

Please complete the Student Survey Form by no later  Thursday, May 21st, 2026.  Any feedback received after this date will not be used in our class placement meetings.

Thank you,

Mr. Blount and Mrs. Odom

FCPS Caters to Food Allergies

May is Food Allergy Awareness Month

The FCPS Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) works to ensure every student has access to safe and nutritious school meals. Since 1 in 13 children in the U.S. has a food allergy, FNS works closely with families to provide reasonable meal accommodations for students whose medical needs affect what they can eat at school.

To support students appropriately and safely, families are asked to submit medical documentation to FNS from a U.S. licensed health care provider so we can tailor meals to each child’s needs.

Learn more about the documentation required and the steps to develop a safe menu for students .

Required Immunizations for Rising 7th Graders

The following immunizations are required for students entering 7th grade each school year.

All students entering 7th gradeare required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine

NOTIFICATION OF TESTING AND RETEST PERMISSION FORM

State Assessments, Grades 3-6

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Students in grades 3-6 participate in state assessments each year. State assessments measure how students are learning grade level standards. Format and timing of state assessments vary by subject and grade level. The Standards of Learning (SOL) tests include mathematics, science in grade 5, and reading standardized tests, with an integrated reading and writing (IRW) component in grade 5.

More information about these assessments can be found on the webpage: SOL Tests in Elementary and Middle Schools ( https://www.fcps.edu/node/42716 ). The Grade Level Tests webpage ( https://www.fcps.edu/node/50045 ) outlines the division testing schedule for required assessments at each grade. School staff will contact you with the specific dates your student is scheduled to take spring SOL tests.

The state allows some elementary students who fail a spring SOL test to have another attempt before the end of the school year. Retests are not offered for the integrated reading and writing (IRW) component. Parent/guardian permission is required for the school to retest any student in grades 3-6. A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your student’s course grade or academic record.

If you believe your student would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and skills on the spring SOL test, submit your decision using the Parent Digital Consent application ( https://www.fcps.edu/family-resources/technology/digital-resources/consent ). This application uses your SIS ParentVUE login. If you don’t have a SIS ParentVUE Account, you may complete and return the form below to the school to give permission for retesting.

If you have questions about state assessments or about SOL retesting, contact your student’s teacher or the school test coordinator, Charlotte Quigley.

Message from the Principals Celebrating the Heart of GBW:  Teacher &Staff Appreciation Week

Dear GBW Community,

As we reach the final day of Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week, we find ourselves reflecting on the incredible outpouring of support shown to our staff over the past few days. It has been a truly heartwarming week at Greenbriar West.

We want to extend a massive thank you to our amazing PTA. Throughout the entire week, they have spoiled our staff with a variety of special treats and thoughtful gestures. These moments of appreciation have brought so many smiles to our hallways and served as a beautiful reminder of how much this community values our teachers, staff, and front office. We especially loved how every treat, from the Dirty Soda Bar to the Breakfast Bar, perfectly matched our favorite storybook themes. Your generosity truly made us feel like the heroes of the story, and we are so grateful for all the color you bring to our school.

Today the PTA ended the week with a culminating event by hosting our Baked Potato Bar with Salads!  It provided a wonderful time of fellowship and food for our team. Mrs. Odom and I feel incredibly blessed to lead such kind, hardworking, and dedicated educators who love and support our students. The work we do collaboratively as a GBW family is deeply important, and we genuinely believe we are making a significant impact on our students' lives each day. Within these walls, our children are learning essential life skills, discovering the joy of reading, learning the core foundations of advanced mathematics, and growing into kind and caring individuals.

To our GBW Teachers and Staff, each of you is incredibly talented, and we consider it a great honor to serve alongside you. Thank you for your unwavering heart and for everything you do to make this school a home for our Pandas. You are the heartbeat of GBW, and we are so proud of the work you do.

To our families, thank you for joining us this week in celebrating our amazing staff. Happy Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week everyone!

With deep appreciation,

Mr. Blount and Mrs. Odom

2026-27 Kindergarten Survey

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Please help us with projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2026, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2026, please complete this form .If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those Greenbriar West families who do not have children currently attending school.

The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2026-2027 school year. Please email the completed form to Patty Li at [email protected] .

Odom
