Reading By 3rd Grade

Outcomes 

  • By Spring 2026, 50% of Multilingual learners in grades K-3 will meet their reading screener benchmark (VALLSS).
  • By Spring 2026, 60% of students in grades K-3 will meet their reading screener benchmark (VALLSS).

Strategies

  • Increase the efficiency of instructional delivery to ensure all students have access to both explicit instruction and daily practice in reading and writing (ex. classroom walkthroughs, CT planning, coaching).
  • Increase the use of data to plan tier 3 instruction and monitor progress during intervention to ensure that students master foundational skills (ex. MTSS Schoolwide/Intervention teams, Reading Plans, Walk to Intervention).           

Mathematics Goal

Outcomes

  • By the end of the 2025-2026 school year, the percentage of Multilingual learners passing the Grades 3-6 Mathematics SOL will increase from 30% to 50% (unadjusted).
  • By the end of the 2025-2026 school year, the percentage of students passing the Grades 3-6 Mathematics SOL will increase from 44 to 55% (unadjusted).

Strategies

  • Increase teachers' implementation of strategies and conversation structures that increase academic talk between students related to Shift 4: from show and tell to share and compare.
  • Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective mathematics intervention.

English Language Goal

Outcomes

  • By the end of the 2025-2026 school year, the percentage of our MLs making EL progress will increase from 57.6% to 63%.

Strategies

  • Monitor to ensure all multilingual learners are receiving explicit ELD instruction using the appropriate resources as outlined in ELD guidance documents: elementary (resource 1), middle and high school (resource 2).
  • Build teacher expertise in language development and high-impact instructional practices for MLs (e.g., GLAD, SIOP, structured talk).

Chronic Absenteeism Goal

Outcomes

  • By June 2026, our chronic absenteeism rate will be below 11%.

Strategies

  • Teachers use a variety of culturally-responsive practices and communication methods to provide supportive outreach to students and families when student attendance concerns arise.
  • Schools share multilingual attendance materials with families throughout the year to educate families regarding the importance of attendance for school success.

Science Goal

Outcomes

  • By the end of the 2025-2026 school year the percentage of students passing the Grade 5 Science SOL will increase from 44.79 to 60% (unadjusted).

Strategies

  • Expand opportunities for students to make connections within and across content areas (writing, math, etc.) and science units.
  • Increase content and/or pedagogy knowledge in science for all teachers (advanced, general, ESOL, special education).
