Welcome, Principal Vereb!
The Region 1 Leadership Team is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Monika Guerrero Vereb as the new principal of Herndon Elementary School.
Dr. Vereb is currently the principal of Herndon Middle School with over 15 years of experience driving transformative equity and strategic innovation. She is a proud product of FCPS and the Herndon Pyramid and brings a valuable second-generation military youth perspective, deeply understanding the community she now serves. Her proven focus on academic growth, early intervention, and building strong, inclusive school cultures provides a powerful foundation for supporting Herndon Elementary students and families.
During her tenure at Herndon Middle School, Dr. Vereb demonstrated a deep commitment to excellence and equity, including:
- Academic Excellence: Achieved exceptional equity growth in Math SOL proficiency for specialized groups (2022-2025) and successfully led the school out of Federal Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) designation.
- Equitable Access: Elevated 8th-grade Algebra 1 enrollment from 53% to 88.4% and guided the school's journey to becoming an ISTE Lighthouse School.
- Culture & Well-being: Significantly reduced chronic absenteeism by 14 percentage points and secured the school's first-ever distinction as a Designated Purple Star School, recognizing its commitment to supporting military families.
Dr. Vereb currently serves as the President of the FCPS Middle School Principals' Association (MSPA). She holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree from The College of William & Mary and has been recognized as a two-time FCPS Outstanding New Principal finalist (2023, 2024).
