WHAT ABOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS?As a part of the FCPS Middle School Athletics Program Kilmer will host Spring Track & Field. Coaches and Volunteers Needed!
Returning Athletes from Cross Country or Crosstown Hoops:
Do Not Needto resubmit Athletic Physicals if PPE on file is dated after March 30,2025
Do Needto complete the Spring Track and Field Athletics Registration Form
Families new to MS Athleticsmust complete several requiredsteps prior to participating (including practice):
● Afterschool Registration Consent
● Spring Track and Field Athletics Registration Form

● Emergency Care Card (ECC) Form
● FCPS Middle School Sports Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination (PPE) Form.
- The PPE Form, must be completely filled in and properly signed(pages 1-3) attesting that you have been examined, found to be physically fit for athletic competition no more than 14 calendar months prior to the date on which report was signed (dated after 3/30/26)
- Proof of Medical/Accident Insurance Coverage(on PPE Form) Any student participating in voluntary Afterschool athletic programs, must have insurance.
- Hard/paper copies of PPE and ECC Forms to the Main Office for review, processing and approval. *Students may not be cleared for participation the same day they submit forms. **Blank copies are available in the Main Office.
● State-Mandated Concussion Education Program
- Each student-athlete and a parent/guardian will confirm their review of the FCPS Middle School Sports Athletic Health Education Program on Registration Form.
PRACTICE & MEET DETAILS
- Practices Begin 4/07
- 2:30-3:30PM on Monday/Wednesday/Thursday
- Must participate in 4 practices for Meet Eligibility
- NO Tryouts - NO Experience Needed

- 5/30 Robinson (MS T&F Champs Meet)

Practice Schedule
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
2:15p-3:30p, Late Bus Available for each practice
Athlete Attire
Practices -
- T-shirts / Sweatshirts
- Shorts / Sweatpants
- Athletic Footwear/Running Shoes (No Spikes)
Meets -
- Uniform top provided (distributed on bus ride to meets)
- Black (preferred) or Blue bottoms
- Athletic Footwear/Running Shoes (Spikes Not Required But Are Allowed for Sprint Events)
Student Athlete Self-Care
Becoming a student-athlete provides an excellent chance to develop essential skills and habits that can help young individuals become more prepared and responsible as they progress in life. We encourage students to do the following:
- Hydrate
- Stretch
- Cardio workout on your own 1-2 days a week.
- Time management
- Appropriate nutrition
- Sleep
Meets
- Kilmer Athletics Leadership will provide meet transportation details.
- Athletics Staff will be responsible for communicating all competition details to the team.
- SAAP has contracted a timing company to assist w/ meet management
- Certified Athletic Trainers will be onsite for meets
- Meet Format
- All Kilmer athletes must ride the bus to the meet.
- Bus show times will be communicated the week of the meet.
- Anticipate several heats (Boys/Girls) each race
Coach's Student Expectations
- Be a good teammate! In school & during practices and meets
- Always bring a full water bottle to practice
- Show up to train
- Wear appropriate clothes and running shoes
- Form bonds with teammates and help others succeed
- Attend practices weekly
- Be on time to class
- Be respectful to staff and peers
- Have no failing grades

FAQ
Does a runner need to attend all the meets?
No, a runner does not need to attend all the meets. In order to participate in a meet, a runner must have completed three practices.
Is there after-school transportation for practices?
Yes, student runners can take the 4:45 pm late bus home. Practices take place during the first after-school slot from 2:30-3:30 pm. During the 2nd after-school slot, students could go to the homework hot spot or another after-school program before taking the bus. Or parents can come pick them up at 3:30 pm.
Do all runners take the bus to and from meets?
All runners are expected to ride the bus to meets. Runners are encouraged to stay until the end of each meet to cheer on their teammates and minimize disruption during other races. If parents need to pick up their runners early, there will be a process to sign them out.
Are there uniforms or equipment we should get?
All runners will be provided with a jersey. Make sure your runner has sturdy running shoes. You do NOT need to buy special running shoes with cleats or trail shoes.
How will my student let the coaches know they will be at practice?
Students must sign in each day of practice to confirm attendance.
Where do students go for practice?
When the dismissal bell rings, on practice days, students should report to the end of the Main Hallway next the Gym no later than 2:25p to sign in with Coaches.
Where will my student go to get the late bus?
Students who are riding the late buses home will report to cafeteria after practice (or attend a 2 nd block After School Club, then report to cafeteria for late bus.)
What door should I pick up my student from practice?
Students who are walkers or have parent transportation will exit the building out of Door #1 at 3:30p
Who else will might coach my student?
Sometimes parent volunteers and siblings on college break will be at few practices to help with training sessions
