Music

General Music

Lemon Road students participate in the Fairfax County Public Schools general music curriculum. Instruction is provided to all students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The K-12 fine arts programs promote the development of Portrait of a Graduate attributes by encouraging students to become critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, and effective communicators. Students learn to play instruments, move to music, and sing songs while incorporating multiple styles of music.

Strings

The Lemon Road strings program is open to students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. Music develops intellectual skills in the language of music, produces physical expression, fosters an understanding of history, provides an appreciation through listening and performing, develops performance skills, and enables music literacy. The strings program is one area that helps to expand learning and expression.

Strings classes focus on the enjoyment of music through performance and skill development with fellow musicians. This creative process focuses on individual progress in the following areas:  Tone Quality, Intonation, Rhythmic Accuracy, Technique, Ensemble Balance and Blend, Interpretation,  and  Stage Presence.

Band

The Lemon Road band program is open to all fifth and sixth grade students. Participating in music helps students grow intellectually through the language of music, encourages physical expression, builds historical understanding, and promotes appreciation through listening and performing. It also develops performance skills and fosters music literacy. Chorus

During school, Lemon Road offers choral ensembles to fifth and sixth-grade students, during which students work toward developing individual and group tone quality, clear and proper diction, strengthening aural and music reading abilities, and having lots of fun while rehearsing and preparing for our performances.

Sixth Grade All-County Chorus

The Sixth Grade All-County Choral Festival is a two-day event that involves over 900 students from elementary schools across Fairfax County. Students are selected by audition and participate in extra choral rehearsals leading up to the event. The choral festival culminates with a spectacular student concert led by a conductor who specializes in working with children’s choirs. The festival and concert promote the highest level of choral skill and performance at the elementary level and provide teacher leadership opportunities
