Partners for Safe Teen Driving

The Mount Vernon High School Partners for Safe Teen Driving (PSTD) program is designed to provide background information for students scheduled to begin the Driver's Education course with MVHS & FCPS.

PE 10 students must attend  ONE meeting during the school year to earn a passing grade for Driver's Ed. Otherwise, the student will receive an "I" for incomplete on their transcript. This meeting is part of the process for a student to earn a Virginia driver’s license before the age of 18.

The meeting schedule for the 2025 - 2026 school year are listed below.

Presentation Dates for 2025-26

Presentation Date Presentation Start Time

March 2, 2026 6:00 p.m. start (Little Theater)

When attending a session, enter using Door 4, and arrive by  6:00 PM. Find the table with your teacher’s class lists. Find your name and have your accompanying adult family member sign next to your name. Restrooms are down the little hallway past the cafeteria. Find seats in the Little Theater and turn off your cell phone.

When attending a virtual session, the Zoom link will be available through your Schoology PE10 Class. If you are an upperclassmen, the Zoom link will be available through your Schoology CPR Course.

Students who already have a Virginia DMV learner’s permit AND attend the PSTD meeting AND complete ALL Driver's Ed classroom work earn a DEC-8 pink card which allows them to take Behind The Wheel (BTW)driving lessons. This 7-day after-school course is required for students to earn a driver’s license before age 18.

It is strongly suggested that students speak with their Driver's Ed teacher to discuss potential dates when the student is available to take the BTW lessons that fit within the family’s schedule.

Still need to get a Virginia DMV learner’s permit?
You can schedule an appointment at the Department of Motor Vehicles website. Click this link to access the  DMV  site. We are also looking to host the permit test here at school the first week in November for students who have attended the PSTD meeting and are in good academic standing in Driver's Ed class.

Specific details will be shared in the approaching weeks.
