New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1

On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) . The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cellphone policy with Senate Bill 108 . This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.

This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.

High school students will no longer be able to use cellphones and personal devices during lunchtime.More details are available on the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage

Other SR&R Changes for the 2026-27 School Year

Visit the FCPS website or the School Board agenda to learn about additional updates, including:

  • Added guidance and procedures for in-school and out-of-school suspensions and discipline investigations, including supports for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
  • Expanded guidance and standardized disciplinary procedures (“Universal Grade Matrices”) related to harassment, hate speech, discriminatory behavior, and Title IX reporting requirements.
  • Responses to incidents involving intimate images, fighting, physical aggression, object throwing, and drug policy violations.
Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Update

On Friday, May 8, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid provided an update on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Budget. FCPS receives the majority of its funding from the Fairfax County Government and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The Fairfax County Government recently adopted its FY 2027 Budget, and at the funding levels provided, there is currently a $28 million budget gap. In addition, the state budget has not been finalized. At last Thursday's School Board meeting, the superintendent proposed adjustments that would balance the FCPS budget.

Read Dr. Reid’s message to the community for more information on the budget process and budget priorities .

Olde Creek News Admin Avenue

Dear Olde Creek Families,

This week, we celebrated the most magical staff on Earth with a Disney-themed Staff Appreciation Week, and what a magical week it was!

Every day, our teachers and staff sprinkle a little pixie dust throughout Olde Creek. They go far beyond teaching academics by supporting the social and emotional well-being of our students, building meaningful relationships, creating safe and welcoming spaces, and helping every child feel seen, valued, and loved. Like the heroes in our favorite Disney stories, our staff lead with heart, courage, kindness, and compassion each and every day.

We also want to give a huge thank you to our incredible PTA and families for helping make this week so special. Our community came together in the most amazing way to celebrate our staff. From Amazon Wish Lists and SignUp Geniuses to volunteering and thoughtful surprises, your generosity helped make sure our staff felt like the stars of the show all week long.

Thank you for helping us create a little Disney magic at Olde Creek and for shining a spotlight on the amazing people who make our school such a special place. As Mickey says, “It all started with a dream,” and we are lucky to share this dream together with such an incredible community.

Sincerely,

Courtney KorbPrincipal

FCPS Caters to Food Allergies

May is Food Allergy Awareness Month. The FCPS Office of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) works to ensure every student has access to safe and nutritious school meals. Since 1 in 13 children in the U.S. has a food allergy, FNS works closely with families to provide reasonable meal accommodations for students whose medical needs affect what they can eat at school.

To support students appropriately and safely, families are asked to submit medical documentation to FNS from a U.S. licensed health care provider so we can tailor meals to each child’s needs.

Learn more about the documentation required and the steps to develop a safe menu for students .

Dear Olde Creek Families,

May is here, and with it comes that special end-of-year energy we all feel in our building. Warmer weather, brighter days, and a growing sense of excitement remind us that we are in the final stretch with just 31 days of school left. We are so proud of our students and grateful for the continued partnership we share with you as we finish the year strong.

A special highlight next week is Staff Appreciation Week. Our staff truly is the heart of Olde Creek, and we would love your help in celebrating them. If you are able, grab your sidewalk chalk and join us this Sunday at 4:00 at the front of the school to decorate the walkways with messages of appreciation.

Olde Creek News Admin Avenue

Dear Olde Creek Families,

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a restful and fun spring break. It has been a great short week getting back into the swing of things, and we have loved seeing our students return with energy and smiles.

As we settle back in, our focus is on reestablishing classroom routines. This helps create a calm, consistent environment and reduces unexpected or negative behaviors. A quick reminder from home about expectations can go a long way, especially as the weather gets warmer and students are eager to be outside.

Month of the Military Child and Purple Up Day!

April is the Month of the Military Child, and at Olde Creek, we are proud to celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and spirit of our military-connected students.

Join us on Purple Up Day, April 15th, by wearing purpleto show your support and appreciation. Purple Up Day is a special day for communities to come together and wear purple as a visible gesture of support for our military-connected youth and their families. Purple symbolizes the combined colors of all branches of the military.  As a Purple Star School, this day is especially meaningful to our community. It is a chance for all of us to stand together and recognize the sacrifices our military families make, especially the children who walk our halls each day.  Let’s turn Olde Creek purple and show our students just how much they are seen, valued, and celebrated!

FCPS Military Family Field Day will be held April 18. This fun-filled day celebrates all FCPS military-connected children and families.  Military Family Field Day will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from noon to 2 p.m. at Annandale High School’s football stadium (4700 Medford Dr, Annandale, VA 22003).

Elementary Early Release Wednesday Update for April

Tuesday, April 21, is now a teacher workday and staff development day because of a recently announced special election that will impact all FCPS schools.

Students will have a traditional full day of instruction and be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22, which was previously an early release Wednesday for elementary schools.

This adjustment allows our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days. Read Dr. Reid’s letter to elementary parents for more details.

Please come by and check out the Lost and Found for any items your student may be missing.  We have many jackets and winter items that want to return home!  All lost and found items will be donated on April 24th.

Olde Creek News Admin Avenue

Dear Olde Creek Families,

Welcome, March!

We are so happy to finally see some sunshine peeking through. There is something about a little extra daylight that lifts everyone’s spirits and helps us feel ready for a fresh start.

As we step into this new month, we have noticed a slight uptick in student behavior. This time of year can bring extra energy, and we would love your partnership in helping our students stay focused and positive at school.

Please take a few minutes at home to review our PAWS expectationswith your child:

🐾 Practice Kindness
🐾 Act Responsibly
🐾 Work and Play Safely
🐾 Show Respect

When school and home work together, our students thrive. Your reminders and encouragement truly make a difference. Together, we can help our students “march” forward with confidence, care, and pride in how they treat one another. (I always love a good pun!)

Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. We are grateful for you and excited for all the growth this month will bring.

Admin Avenue

Dear Olde Creek Families,

We wanted to make you aware that Tuesday, March 3, will be a special election day for the Braddock District vacancy on the Fairfax County School Board. Olde Creek is one of 22 schools that will be serving as a polling place on March 3. We are taking extra safety precautions that will allow citizens to exercise their civic duty while minimizing disruptions to the school day.

In coordination with the FCPS Office of Safety and Security and the Fairfax County Office of Elections, we have identified an area of our school that will be open to the public during the school day. This location is removed from students and will be monitored to prevent anyone from entering other areas of the school.

We will need to make some parking spots available for voters, so if you have a meeting at school on March 3, we encourage you to arrive a little early to find parking. Otherwise, we anticipate that disruptions to the school day will be minimal.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we perform this important function for our community. Please feel free to reach out to me directly, if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Courtney Korb

Principal

New Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

Olde Creek News Admin Avenue

Dear Bear Families,

It has been quite a stretch of winter weather here at Olde Creek. Between a full week out of school due to snow/ice and teacher work days, followed by several two-hour delays, we know this has required a lot of flexibility from our families and staff.

We are incredibly grateful for our community and the way everyone came together in the cold to support one another and our school. A HUGE shout out to Wendy Oliva and Nelsy Mejia, our amazing custodial team, for their tireless work shoveling, salting, and sanding. And then doing it all over again. Their dedication ensured the safe arrival of our staff and students, and we are so thankful for them.

We are hopeful that next week brings a return to some normalcy. And just in time, we are welcoming it with an Olympic-sized dose of fun.

As you will read below, we are kicking off a POG (Portrait of a Graduate) and Olympic-themed spirit week. Throughout the week, students will focus on different POG attributes, each paired with a spirit day. They will be making connections between what it means to be an Olympian and the POG traits needed to work hard, persevere, and achieve your dreams.

This afternoon, Olde Creek will host our very own Opening Ceremonies with a school-wide gathering. We will be lighting our Olympic torch class by class as a symbol of teamwork and shared purpose. Be sure to check out our social media for some great pictures from the event.

A big shout out to Ms. Philip (4th grade), for her vision, leadership, and follow-through in creating what is sure to be an incredible week full of POG, Olympic connections, and fun.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. After all this snow, we are ready to go for the gold together.

Stay warm and stay safe,

Courtney Korb

Principal

Winter Olympic and POG Spirit Week

Join in the fun as we celebrate the Winter Olympics and tie it to our learning around Portrait of a Graduation (POG) attributes.

Students will be focusing on a different POG attribute each day and are encouraged to dress up for each day as noted below! We are hoping to capture lots of students taking part so they can be featured in our newsletters, social media and internal slide shows around the building.

Throughout the week, students will be hearing from Olympians and Paralympians who will share their story about making it to the Olympics.

Check out a preview of one of the Olympian stories HERE
