Reading by 3rd Grade

Outcomes

  •  By the end of the 2025-26 school year, the percentage of exceptional education students in 3rd grade scoring a pass or pass advance on the Reading SOL will increase by 12% (from 18% to 30%) by Spring 2026.
  • By the end of the 2025-26 school year, the percentage of 3rd grade students scoring a pass or pass advance on the 3rd grade Reading SOL will increase by 10% (from 68% to 78%) by Spring 2026.

Strategies

  • Increase access to rigorous evidence-based, grade-level curriculum through intentional use of scaffolds and supports in reading and writing lessons during tier 1 and 2 instruction (ex. Integrated ELD, GLAD strategies, FCPS resources for students with disabilities).
  • Ensure fidelity of implementation in tier 3 intervention programs to maximize student progress (ex. fidelity toolkits, program matching, intervention effectiveness protocol, intervention walkthroughs).
  • Use data from formative and summative assessments in the core curriculum to guide instructional decisions during tier 1 and tier 2 reading and writing instruction (ex. data dialogues, CT data discussions)."                            

Elementary School Math

Outcomes

  • By the end of the 2025-26 school year, the (unadjusted) percentage of students with disabilities who score in the Pass Proficient or Pass Advanced range on the Math SOL will increase by 10% (from 54% to 64%).
  • By the end of the 2025-26 school year, the (unadjusted) percentage of students who score in the Pass Proficient or Pass Advanced range on the Math SOL will increase by 10 % (from 77% to 87%).

Strategies

  • Improve the integrity of implementation of core curriculum, and/or intervention programs by using FCPS-adopted resources with fidelity to align with the Framework for Engaging & Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction
  • Improve alignment of instructional planning based on analysis of common assessments.
  • Increase teachers' implementation of balanced assessment strategies as related to Shift 8: from looking for correct answers towards revealing student thinking.

Elementary Language Progress

Outcomes

  •  By the end of Spring 2025, the percentage of multilingual learners making VDOE WIDA Growth as measured by the WIDA ACCESS will increase by 7%.

Strategies: 

  •  Monitor to ensure all multilingual learners are receiving explicit ELD instruction using the appropriate resources as outlined in ELD guidance documents
  • Increase the use of language-focused strategies, scaffolds, and supports in content and classroom instruction that match the students’ English language proficiency and promote oral language development and peer to peer interactions.

Science

Outcomes 

  • By the end of the 2025-26 school year, the percentage of students who score in the Pass Proficient or Pass Advanced range on the Science SOL will increase by 5% (from 62 % to 67%)
  • By the end of the 2025-26 school year, the percentage of students in the following subgroups who score in the Pass Proficient or Pass Advanced range on the Science SOL will increase by 6%:
    • Economically disadvantaged from 51% to 57%
    • Multilingual learners from 28% to 34%
    • Exceptional education students from 52% to 58%
    • Black from 56% to 61%
    • Hispanic from 48% to 54% 

Strategies

  • Increase the frequency of student learning experiences that are inquiry-based and hands-on through the use of centrally-developed curriculum resources
  • Increase content and/or pedagogy knowledge in science for all teachers (advanced, general, ESOL, special education).
