Message from Ms. Briggs

It has been another busy week full of teaching, learning and testing! Students in grades 3-6 have now taken both the Reading and Math Standards of Learning Assessments. Student scores should now be able to view through Parent Vue.

We are so excited to announce that our Large Pod furniture has arrived and been installed. Our students are already using this space for working in small groups and buddy reading!  The funds raised from our Fall Boosterthon were used to purchase the first 2 phases of this project! Thank you to our PTO and for all of your generous contributions!

Enjoy the weekend!

May is Food Allergy Awareness Month!

Did you know? 1 in 13 children (2 children in every classroom!) and 1 in 10 adults in the U.S. manage food allergy. Food allergy is a disease and reactions range from mild symptoms to severe, potentially life-threatening reactions such as anaphylaxis. Every 10 seconds, food allergy sends a patient to the emergency department.

How can you help? Learn common allergens and signs of severe reaction. Always show kindness and respect. 9 foods cause about 90% of all food allergy reactions in the U.S including milk, eggs, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, sesame, fish, and crustacean shellfish.

Myth: Food allergies are not that serious.

Fact: Food allergies can be a life-threatening disease. They are more than just an itch or a stomachache. Food allergy can cause symptoms such  as hives, coughing, swelling of the face and tongue, difficulty breathing, and loss of consciousness.

Provided by the Allergy Awareness Committee. Fill out this form to connect

Message from Mrs. Briggs

Dear Spring Hill Families,

This week, our school community came together to culminate Black History Month in meaningful and memorable ways. Throughout February, our students learned about the achievements, contributions, and enduring impact of Black leaders, innovators, artists, and change-makers who have shaped our nation’s history and continue to influence our world today.

We were excited to cap off our celebration with a high-energy musical experience featuring Rock Steady and his Go-Go band. Students had the opportunity to learn about the  cultural roots of Go-Go music, a genre that originated right here in the Washington, D.C. area.

It was a joy to see our students clapping, dancing, and fully engaged in the performance!

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our efforts to create inclusive, enriching experiences for every student.

We hope you enjoy the warmer weather this weekend.

Sincerely,

Amy Briggs

Dear Panther Families

Congratulations to our Spelling Bee contestants for their impressive participation in our annual Spelling Bee. Our 2026 Spelling Bee winner is Mayan Ramanujan and our three runners up are Nickan Sadr, Arjun Perumbali, and Linna liu.

We have reduced our chronic absenteeism rate by 2% since this time last year!  Please continue to use the FCPS calendar when planning days away from school.  There are a number of student holidays to use for trips in the upcoming months.

We have a new security management systemin the front office. Download the Raptor Safeapp on your phone. In the app, create your profile which includes scanning your driver's license. This will make checking in at the front office much quicker and easier.  Please see additional details below.  This is a system that is being installed across all FCPS schools.

If you have a neighbor with a rising Kindergarten student for the 2026-27 school year, please encourage them to register their child as soon as possible.  Having an accurate number of our rising Kindergarten students impacts our staffing for next school year!  Save the date for our kindergarten orientation scheduled for April 18th at 1:30pm.

We hope you enjoy this warmer weather and have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Amy Briggs

Celebrating the Power of School Breakfast

Multiple studies show that school breakfasts are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school breakfast consume more fruit and fiber than their peers.

This National School Breakfast Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Would you like to know what’s for breakfast? Nutrition Services has printable menus available.

Dear Spring Hill Families,

I would like to sincerely thank two of our Spring Hill dads', Mr. Amirsayafi & Mr. Jia for taking time on Tuesday morning to shovel the Kiss & Ride left turn lane. I know I speak for many of the parents, but this is a true reflection of our strong sense of community and willingness to help others. We are so very appreciative!

We ended this crazy week with our mid-year pep rally! We reviewed our school expectations and our Portrait of a Graduate skills. There was a lot of school spirit!

Next week, we will celebrate Kindness week. Please see our spirit week schedule!

Sincerely,

Amy Briggs

Family Literacy

Our Spring Semester begins Feb. 9th

The Family Literacy Program  begins next week!  Enrollment is open so any multilingual family who has children enrolled in FCPS is eligible to attend. Classes are  FREE. We offer beginning English classes for adults, early learning environments for children two to five years of age and enrichment classes for children K-8th grade. While the parents are acquiring English language skills and learning how to support their children’s education, their children are participating in learning activities in separate classrooms. If you have any families that you feel could benefit from this program,  please contact us via email and we will send you a QR code with a link that you can print and/or share with your families. The QR code is linked to a google form survey that parents can fill out. Our office will then contact each family and invite them to one of our classes.

Dear Spring Hill Families,

We hope you all have stayed warm and safe during this cold winter week! Our incredible custodial staff has been working tirelessly to clear the sidewalks, back path, and parking lot. Although they have made great progress, there continues to be areas with thick ice and slippery spots. Please ensure your students are dressed properly and use care during arrival and dismissal. We will have additional staff outside to ensure their safety as well.

We hope to see all our students back on Monday!

Please stay safe & warm!

Sincerely,

Amy Briggs

Rise Against Hunger Campaign EXTENDED through February 4

Spring Hill ES thanks all families who have donated to our Rise Against Hunger campaign. We will extend the campaign collection through next Wednesday, February 4. We hope our kids have been helpful in chipping away some of the snow-crete that has plastered our driveways and sidewalks, perhaps earning a little extra to donate. Please make plans to sign up to volunteer to package meals on February 1st for our Food Packing event on Saturday, February 7! This is an incredible day of service with other Langley Pyramid Schools. Remember, every bit helps and $0.42 covers the cost of a meal and a meal feeds 5-6 people. We are glad to support this project again this year. Read more information and/or donate online here !
