Donuts with Dependents: A Sweet Morning of Connection at WSHS
West Springfield High School recently hosted a heartwarming event, "Donuts with Dependents," bringing together military-connected families for a morning of coffee, donuts, and camaraderie. The event, held on April 9th, was a wonderful way to connect staff, students, and military families within the West Springfield community.
The atmosphere was warm and welcoming as attendees mingled over delicious donuts and coffee. In a show of solidarity and support, many attendees wore purple. Purple is the designated color for the Month of the Military Child, symbolizing the sacrifices and resilience of military families. The sea of purple in the room was a powerful reminder of the strong support system at WSHS.
In addition to the treats, a highlight of the morning was a large map where families placed stars to mark the locations where they had been stationed around the world. The event provided a perfect opportunity for families to connect, share experiences, and build a stronger sense of community within WSHS's large military-connected population.
April is a special month dedicated to recognizing and honoring the children of military families. These families often face unique challenges, including frequent moves, deployments, and the absence of a parent. "Donuts with Dependents" was a wonderful way to acknowledge their strength and resilience and to show appreciation for their contributions to the WSHS community.
West Springfield is proud to support our military connected families. Additional resources and information for current and prospective families can be found on our Military Connected Families Page .
