    Recovering Saved Passwords

    Have you ever wished there was a way to recover your saved passwords? Some browsers will allow you to view your saved passwords!

    NOTEIf you are unable to log into your GCU account with your saved GCU password, your password may have expired. If you would like to learn how to reset your password, visit our Password Reset Process article.

    Windows

    1. Click on the menu buttonin the upper right-hand corner of Firefox.

    2. On the menu, select Passwords.

    3. On the left-hand side of the Logins and Password (or the Firefox Lockwise) page, look for the website from which you want to recover your password.

      NOTEMany GCU sites use Microsoft Single Sign-On (SSO), so your saved GCU password could appear under microsoftonline.comor live.cominstead of the site’s name. When looking for a saved GCU password, search for both “ microsoft” and “ live” in the password manager. If that doesn’t work or the site doesn’t use SSO, then search for your GCU email with “ gcu.edu.”
    4. Once selected, you will have options to either show (eye-icon) or copy your password. Click on the eye-icon to reveal your password.

    NOTEIf you are on a page where a password is saved, there may be a key icon to the left of the star in the address bar. Selecting Manage passwords from the resulting menu will skip to step 4.
    1. Click on the Three-Dotmenu in the upper right-hand corner of Google Chrome.

    2. On the pop-up window, click on the Passwords and Autofilloption.

    3. Then select Google Password Manager.

      NOTEIf you do not see the Google Password Manageroption, you may need to install it first. To do that, click on the Install Google Password Manageroption, which is also found in the three-dot menu.

    4. You will reach the Passwords page and see a list of websites for which you have saved passwords. Click on the arrowicon next to the password you would like to see.

    5. If the computer requires a password to sign in, the Windows Security box will appear prompting you to enter the computer password.

    6. On the new page, click on the Eye Iconto reveal the saved password.

    1. Open the Start Menuand search for “ Control Panel”.

      NOTEIf your Control Paneldoes not look like what is shown above, check to make sure that your view is set to Category.

    3. Then, select Credential Manager.

    4. Locate and select the website that you need to recover the password from under Web Passwords.

    5. Select the Showto the right of the password for the selected website.

    6. If prompted to verify credentials, sign in with your computer login information.

    1. Click the Settings and moremenu in the top right corner of Microsoft Edge.

    2. Select Passwordsfrom the dropdown menu.

    3. You should see the websites that your passwords are saved for. To view the passwords, click on the site.22.png

    5. A security box may appear prompting you to enter a password. Simply enter the password you use to log into your computer and click OK.

    1. To view saved passwords in Safari, open the Launchpad.

    3. When the Password app opens, enter your computer password.

    4. After you unlock the Password app, you will see a list of saved passwords on your computer. Click on the website from where you want to get your password from.36.png

    5. The website information will appear on the right side of the app. Hover over the dots in the password field to see the password. You can also click on the password to copy from the field.

    Mobile Devices

    In addition to desktop and laptop browsers, you can also recover your saved passwords on mobile devices, although the process may be different depending on the type of device and the browser that you use. Unfortunately, GCU Technical Support has a very limited scope of service with mobile devices. If you need to recover your password from your mobile device, we recommend checking out the support resources below:

    These links are for the built-in browsers used on mobile devices. If you use a different app or browser to store your saved passwords, we recommend looking at their support center for additional assistance.
