With Gemini in Chrome , you can get AI assistance in your browser to easily get key takeaways, clarify concepts, find answers and more. To provide the most relevant responses, Gemini in Chrome uses content from your current browser tab. On a computer, you can also share up to 10 open tabs with Gemini.
Gemini in Chrome is a feature of Chrome and a separate experience from the Gemini web and mobile apps. With it, you can easily share page content with Gemini and get help while you browse.
What you need
Important: Gemini in Chrome is not available to all users at this time. We’re gradually releasing Gemini in Chrome, so it might not be available to you just yet.
To use Gemini in Chrome on your computer, you need to:
- Be 18 or over and in the US.
- Use a Chromebook Plus, Mac, or Windows computer.
- Use the latest version of Chrome. Learn how to update Chrome .
- Sign in to Chrome. This feature isn’t available in Incognito mode. Learn how to sign in to Chrome .
- Have Chrome’s language set to English (United States). Learn how to change Chrome’s language setting .
If you use Gemini in Chrome with a work or school Google Account, access must be enabled by your administrator. Learn more about using Gemini Apps with a work or school Google Account .
Chat with Gemini in Chrome
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- At the top of your browser, click Gemini in Chrome
.
- You’ll need to opt in the first time you use Gemini in Chrome. To opt in, follow the onscreen instructions.
- In the text box, enter your question or request.
- By default, Gemini in Chrome uses content from your current tab for its response. Learn how Gemini in Chrome works with your data

- Tabs opened from a chat or a shared tab are also shared with Gemini.
- In Gemini Live, the current tab is shared by default, but you can share other tabs. Learn how to manage tabs in Gemini Live .
- To add an open tab directly in your prompt, enter

What you can do with Gemini in Chrome
After you opt in to Gemini in Chrome in the side panel, you can chat directly with Gemini. For example, try asking Gemini in Chrome to:
- Summarize key takeaways from an article
- Explain a complex topic in a different way
- Help you test your knowledge of a new subject you’re learning
- Modify a recipe to meet dietary needs
- Compare or consolidate information across pages
- Make recommendations based on your preferences
- Complete multi-step actions on your behalf
Manage your chat with Gemini in Chrome
In Gemini in Chrome, you can:

Go Live & talk while you browse:at the bottom, click Go Live

- Share or stop sharing a tab:in the text box, click Update tabs
and select the tab you want to add or remove. A shared tab shows a Check mark

- Pop-out or dock Gemini in Chrome:at the top, click Pop-out chat
or Dock to original tab

- Start a new chat:at the top, click Start new chat
. If it’s not there, first click More options
.
- When you start a new chat, your current tab is shared with Gemini by default. To change this, you can turn off Share current tab by defaultin your Chrome settings. Learn how to turn it off in Chrome settings .
- Switch between Gemini models:in the text box, click the model name
, then select the model.
- Find your recent Gemini chats:at the top, click More options

After you opt in to using Gemini in Chrome, you can use keyboard shortcuts.
To open or close Gemini in Chrome:
- On Mac, press Ctrl+ G
- On Windows, press Alt+ G
- On ChromeOS, press Search+ G
To switch between your tab and Gemini in Chrome:
- On Mac, press Ctrl+ ⌘+ G
- On Windows, press Alt+ Shift+ G
- On ChromeOS, press Search+ Alt+ G

To choose your own keyboard shortcuts:
- At the top of Gemini in Chrome, click More options

Manage tabs shared with Gemini in Chrome
When you open Gemini in Chrome, the page content from your current tab is shared by default. Gemini uses that page content to respond. You can stop sharing your current tab at any time. Learn how Gemini in Chrome works with your data .
- In Gemini in Chrome, above the text box, click Show shared tabs
.
- Next to the tab you want to stop sharing, click Remove tab
.
- When a tab is no longer shared, the glowing underline on the tab disappears.
Tip:If you start a new chat, your current tab is shared with Gemini by default. To change this, you can turn off Share current tab by defaultin your Chrome settings. Learn how to turn it off in Chrome settings .
In addition to your current tab, you can share up to 10 of your recent open tabs across your browser windows. Learn how Gemini in Chrome works with your data .
- At the top of your Chrome browser, click Gemini in Chrome

- In the text box, click Add tabs
.
- Select the tabs you want to add.
- A shared tab shows a Check mark
.
- This shares the page content from the tabs you share, and Gemini uses it to respond.
- When Gemini is using a page, its tab shows a glowing underline.

Tip:You can also search for and add open tabs by entering @
and selecting the tab.
When you share a Workspace webpage
Gemini may directly access your Workspace account to respond to you about a Workspace webpage (like docs.google.com) that you shared in Chrome. This makes sure that Gemini can, for example, refer to an entire Google Doc you’ve asked about instead of only what’s available within the tab. Use Connected Apps in Gemini in Chrome
Important: Only some Connected Apps are available in Gemini in Chrome. Learn about which apps Gemini in Chrome can connect to .
With your permission, Gemini in Chrome can help you connect your personal information and content in Google Workspace services. If you connect the Google Workspace app, Gemini in Chrome can help you get things done with Google Workspace services, like:
- Summarize your emails in Gmail
- Add items to Google Tasks
- Create events in Google Calendar
Gemini in Chrome can currently connect to the following apps:

To disconnect or connect apps:
- At the top of Gemini in Chrome, click More options

- Find the app and turn the app off

Gemini in Chrome can also automatically use public information from certain Google services to provide more helpful responses to your prompts. For example, Gemini in Chrome can help you:
- Find relevant YouTube videos and answer questions you have about the video
- Get location-based information from Google Maps
Currently, Gemini in Chrome automatically uses public information from these Google services:
- Google Search
- Google Maps
- YouTube
To use public information from Google Maps and YouTube, Keep Activity must be on. Gemini in Chrome can always use public information from Google Search, even if Keep Activity is off.

Hide or show Gemini icon on browser & desktop- On your computer, open Chrome.

If Gemini in Chrome is available in your country or territory, try these steps:
- Sign in to your Chrome browser with your Google Account.

If Gemini in Chrome still doesn’t show, try restarting your Chrome browser.
