Go Live with Gemini in Chrome

On a computer, you can go Live and talk naturally with Gemini in Chrome while you browse web pages. With Gemini Live, you can do things like: ask questions to learn more about a topic, brainstorm ideas, or get help finding info on a page. You can interrupt the conversation to add more details or change topics.

What you need

To go Live with Gemini in Chrome on a computer, you need to:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top of your browser, click Gemini in Chrome.
  3. In the text box, click Go Live.
  4. For your first time, follow the on-screen instructions to set up Gemini Live.
  5. Start talking. You can even interrupt mid-response when you want to add more details or change the topic.

Manage your Live chat with Gemini in Chrome

In Gemini in Chrome, you can:

  • Turn closed captions on or off:at the top, click Turn on live captionsor Turn off live captions.
  • To continue chat with text:at the bottom, click Switch to text mode.
  • Start a new chat:at the top, click More optionsand then Start New Chat.
  • Change Gemini’s voice:at the top, click More optionsand then Select Voice.
Manage permissions for Gemini in Chrome

To go Live, make sure Gemini in Chrome has permission to use page content in Chrome and your device’s microphone.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top, click Moreand then Settings.
  3. In the Settings menu, click AI innovationsand thenGemini in Chrome.
    • If the menu is hidden, first click Menu.
  4. Under “Permissions,” you can turn the following permissions on or off:
    • Precise location
    • Microphone
    • Share current tab by default
    • Let Gemini browse for you

Manage tabs shared with Gemini in Chrome

Share or pause sharing your current tab

If you share your current tab and go to a different page on your current tab, Gemini uses the new page. You can pause sharing your current tab at any time. Learn how Gemini in Chrome works with your data .

  • To share your current tab:In Gemini Live, click Share current tab.
    • This shares the page content from the tab you’re on, and Gemini uses it to respond. 
    • When Gemini is using a page, the page’s edges glow and its tab shows a glowing underline.
  • To pause sharing your current tab:In Gemini Live, click Current tabor Pause sharing current tab.
    • When a tab is no longer shared, the glow from the page’s edges and the glowing underline on the tab disappears.
Share or stop sharing other open tabs

In addition to your current tab, you can share up to 10 of your recent open tabs across your browser windows. You can share these tabs in the Gemini Live window. Learn how Gemini in Chrome works with your data .

To manage shared tabs:

  1. In Gemini Live, click Add tabs.
    • If you already shared other tabs, click the Manage tabs button, which shows the number of currently shared tabs.
  2. Next to the tab you want to share, click Add tab.
    • To remove a tab, click Remove tab.

To remove all shared tabs:on the Manage tabs button, click Stop sharing tabs.

Important:

  • We’re gradually releasing this feature, so it might not be available to you just yet.
  • To use this feature, you need to turn on Page content sharing and Microphone permissions. Learn how to manage permissions .

While you’re Live with Gemini in Chrome, you can use your voice to navigate the web page on your current tab. You can ask Gemini to do things like scroll to and highlight relevant content. 

For example, you can use Live to help you: 

  • Find info quickly.Ask Gemini to find specific info to help you answer a homework question or scroll to gluten-free recipes in a long list of recipes.
  • Follow instructions hands-free.Ask Gemini to go to the next step while working on a messy craft project.

To navigate a web page with your voice:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top of your browser, click Gemini in Chrome.
  3. In the text box, click Go Live.
  4. Use your voice to ask Gemini to navigate the specific content on the current web page.
    • You can say “Scroll me,” “Go to,” or “Take me to”.
    • Gemini can’t navigate PDFs by voice.
