In celebration of the National Park Service Centennial in 2016, this exhibit highlights one museum object from San Juan National Historic Site.

Saint Barbara Statue National Park Service, Museum Management Program

As the patron saint of those who faced sudden death, Saint Barbara had special significance for artillerymen. Statues of Saint Barbara were placed near the powder magazines.

San Juan National Historic Site, SAJU 2640

This sculpture shows Santa Barbara holding a tower with three openings, to symbolize the Holy Trinity, and a plan of salvation.
