Enroll devices with video calling on or off

As a Google Meet hardware administrator, you can decide whether Google Meet devices are enrolled with video calling turned on or off. Turning off video calling at enrollment time allows delegated admins with narrow privileges (like third-party installers) to enroll devices without those devices being able to join calls.

Turn video calling on or off when devices are enrolled

By default, video calling is turned on when a Meet hardware device is enrolled. As a Meet hardware administrator, you can configure whether new devices will be provisioned with video calling turned on or off.

  1. Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.

If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

  2. Go to Menu  Devices > Google Meet hardware > Settings .

Some features may require having the Meet hardware Manage organizational unit settings privilege.

  3. Click the Service settingssection to expand it.
  4. Click Edit next to New device video calling.
  5. Check or uncheck the box next to Enroll devices with video calling on.
  6. Click Save.

Note: A shortlink (such as g.co/meetsetup/CODE) will be displayed on the physical device's display after provisioning. This link takes you directly to the device details page for full setup. If a device doesn't have a name, its serial number will be displayed on the device for identification.

Turn video calling on or off for a specific device

After provisioning, video calling can be turned on or off for each device.

  1. Sign in with an administrator account to the Google Admin console.

If you aren’t using an administrator account, you can’t access the Admin console.

  2. Go to Menu  Devices > Google Meet hardware > Devices .

Some features may require having the Manage Google Meet hardware privilege.

  3. (Optional) Filter the devices by organizational unit or other criteria.
  4. Click a device name to select it.
Most newly enrolled devices are listed as Unnamed device. You'll add a name in the following steps.
  5. Click the Video calling and calendarsection to expand it.
  6. Click Edit next to Video calling.
  7. Check or uncheck the box next to Video calling is enabled.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Assign a personal calendar or room calendar to the device so people can use that calendar to schedule meetings with the connected person or room.
  10. For details, see Assign a Google Calendar to Meet hardware .

If you’re updating the video calling mode for multiple devices, you can also use the bulk action or bulk upload features.
