Convert exported and decrypted Google files to Microsoft Office files

If your organization uses Google Workspace Client-side encryption (CSE) , you can convert your exported and decrypted Google Sheets files to Microsoft Excel files. This feature benefits users with both Google and Microsoft Office licenses.

Important: Don’t run multiple instances of the file converter tool at one time. If you run more than one instance in the same directory, this could cause conflicts. Additionally, don't modify folders after selection.

To convert an exported and decrypted Sheets file to an Excel file:

  1. Use the Data Export tool or Google Vault to export the encrypted Sheets files from Google Workspace.
  2. Use the decrypter tool to decrypt the exported files.
  3. Open the file converter tool .
  4. Select the source folder that contains the files that you want to convert. This will also be the destination folder for your converted files.

The file converter tool requires you to use a trusted browser. The browser might ask you to give the tool permission to edit files on your device. This permission is necessary to convert your files. Google doesn’t access file content during this process.

  5. Click Convert.
