Manage data layers in your project

Once you add data layers to your Google Earth project, you can control their visibility, appearance, and how you interact with the data on the map. Layers are automatically saved to your project as you add or adjust them.

Adjust layer visibility and opacity

You can show or hide layers and control their transparency to better visualize your data with the underlying basemap or other layers.

1. In your project's Map contentspanel on the left, find the data layer you want to adjust.
2. To hide the layer, click visibility_off Hide featurenext to the name of the layer. To show the layer, click visibility Show feature.
3. To adjust opacity, select the layer in the Map contentspanel, and then click the Styletab in the inspector that appears on the right hand side. You can drag the opacity slider to make the layer more transparent or opaque.

Reorder layers

To change the order of how data layers are visualized on the map:

1. In your project's Map contentspanel, right-click the layer you want to rearrange, and click either flip_to_front Bring to frontor flip_to_back Send to back.
2. This will change the visual order of layers on the map, but not how they appear in your project's Map contentspanel.

Inspect layer features

Learn more about individual features within a data layer directly on the map.

1. Select a layer feature (for example, a census tract, a property parcel) on the map view.
2. The inspector opens on the right, displaying details about that specific feature from the data layer.
