Find and edit your experiments

When your experiment starts running, you’ll want to check how it’s performing in comparison to the original campaign. This will help you decide whether to end your experiment, convert it to a new campaign, or apply it to the original campaign.

This article explains how to find and edit your experiments.

Instructions

Find your campaign experiments in the Campaign page

Note: If you prefer to use the navigation panel on the left, select Change viewin the top left of your Google Ads account.
  1. Go to Experiments within the CampaignsmenuCampaigns Icon.
  2. The "Experiments" page lists various experiment types to optimize your campaigns:
    • These include, but aren't limited to, Custom experiments, Ad variations, Performance Max experiments, Demand Gen experiments, Video experiments, App experiments, and more.

Find your experiments in the Experiments page (formerly Drafts and Experiments)

  1. Go to Experiments within the CampaignsmenuCampaigns Icon.
  2. In the “All Experiments” table, you’ll view the experiment name, experiment type, status, and start and end dates.
    • If you’re coming from a specific campaign page, you’ll view a table that shows just the experiments for that campaign.
    • If you’re coming from the “All experiments” page, you’ll view a table that shows all experiments next to the campaigns they’re created from. To change this view, select the segments iconin the upper-right corner, and under “Group rows by”, select:
      • Noneto view your experiments listed in alphabetical order by name.
      • Campaignto view your experiments grouped by campaigns.
    • If you want to use the filter to find an experiment, select the filter iconFilterin the upper-right corner, then choose a filter from the drop-down.

Make changes for experiments

After creating your experiments, you can make the following changes for experiments as necessary.

  1. Go to Experiments within the CampaignsmenuCampaigns Icon.
  2. Find the name of the experiment you want to edit. Then, select the pencil iconEditnext to the field you want to edit.
    • Name: The name you've chosen for your experiment.
    • Start date: The start date for this experiment.
      • Note: You can't edit the start date of an experiment when the campaign has started running, and its status is set to "In Progress".
    • End date: The end date for this experiment. The initial end date for your experiment must be between 2-12 weeks after the start date. However, you can extend this end date at any time during the experiment, up to a maximum of 12 weeks from the current date. This allows your experiment to run for longer than the initial 12-week period if needed.
      • Note: The "2-12 weeks" duration is applicable to the following experiments:
        • Custom experiment (Search, Display, and Hotel)
        • Performance Max experiment
        • Ad variations
        • Omnibidding and Shopping
        • Search one-click experiment
  3. Select Save.

Note: You can change your setup while an experiment runs. But it's best to keep the bid type and rules the same for both groups. Both the control group and the test group should use the same settings. This ensures you get clear results. Don't shift these parts mid-test as this can initiate a learning phase that can impact results.

End an experiment
Find and select the name of the experiment. Select End nowon the upper-right of the page. Select End.
Note: Your experiment will finish at the end date, or you can finish the experiment manually before the end date when you select End now. After the experiment ends, you can't resume it or edit the end date.
Remove an experiment
To remove an experiment, follow the instructions below:
  1. Go to Experiments within the CampaignsmenuCampaigns Icon.
  2. Select Custom experiments.
  3. Select the checkbox next to the experiment (for example, Display Experiment test) you’d like to remove.
  4. Select the Editdropdown.
  5. Select Remove.
Note: The “Remove” option is only supported for custom experiments.
