Adapting a book into a movie can be a hit or miss. This year saw a variety of book-to-screen adaptations with our favorite stars as the main leads and sometimes the supporting ones.

Say Nothing
Written by Patrick Radden Keefe, Say Nothing solely focuses on the troubles in Northern Ireland. The book is being adapted into a thriller mini-series, set to release on Nov,14 on Hulu.
The cast is star-studded with Maxine Peake, Lola Petticrew, Hazel Doupe, and Josh Finan taking over the screen. With winter around the corner, this mystery-themed series might be the perfect one to curl up to on your bed.

Silo (Season 2)
A dystopian and science-fiction series, Silo is once again going to grace our screens with an enthralling season 2, and honestly speaking, no one is complaining. The TV show is an adoption of a three-part book series, following a group of people who live underground in colossal silos.
Harriet Walter, Rashida Jones, Tim Ribbons, and Rebecca Ferguson are some of the many talented actors who are going to play a role in the series. Season 2 is set to release on Nov, 15.

Interior Chinatown
Based on the novel, Interior Chinatown, the show showcases a background character trapped in a police procedural who goes on to discover hidden secrets about the strange world he lives in. The trailer for the show got over 7.4 million views.
The main lead for the series is Jimmy O. Yang with supporting actors that include Chloe Bennet, Ronny Chieng, and Lisa Gilroy. The show is going to air on Nov, 19.

Ripley
Ripley, a neo-noir psychological thriller TV series is based on the popular book, The Talented Mr. Ripley. With a whopping 4/5 rating on Goodreads, the book-to-movie adaptation was released this year in April.
The series streamed on Netflix and among the cast members, the most prominent ones are Andrew Scott playing the beloved roles of Ripley, Elliot Summer, Dakota Fanning, and Johnny Flynn.

It Ends With Us
The popular Colleen Hoover book, It Ends With Us earned both criticism and love when it was released. The book which was adapted into a movie, starred Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, Jenny Slate, and Isabela Ferrer.
The movie follows the main lead Lilly Bloom (Blake Lively) going through the hardships of life. The story sheds light on several important topics and societal problems.

The Watchers
Based on the book by A.M. Shine, the Watchers is directed by Dakota Fanning and Ishana Night. The book/movie is a horror one and the main lead Lucy is played by none other than Dakota herself.
Other cast members include Georgina Campbell, Olliver Finnegan, and Hannah Howland. The movie was loved by the viewers describing it as the “perfect balance between scares and feels”.

The Idea of You
Starring none other than Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galtizine, The Idea Of You tells a story of love between a 40-year-old woman with a 24-year-old boy band singer.
The book which is written by Robinne Lee, comes with a solid balance between romance and comedy. The fans were over the moon when they found out that the book was being adapted into a movie.

Uglies
This novel by Scott Westerfield was turned into a movie this year and streamed on Netflix. The problem of “Pretty Culture” is largely explored in the book and was perfectly showcased by the movie’s cast members.
With Joey King playing the main heroine lead along with Chase Stokes and Kevin Miles, the movie was loved by almost everyone. The YA dystopian novel was written and published in 2005.

White Bird
A heart-touching story that follows a young guy paving his way in the world and looking for ways to transform his life, White Bird is a must-watch for everyone.
Viewers went as far as to say that the movie adaptation was way better than the book, written by R. J. Palacio. The main lead in the movie is Orlando Schwerdt along with Helen Mirren who plays the role of the grandmother.

Wicked
Set to release on November 22 this year, Wicked was inspired by the Wizard of Oz prequel story based on the 1995 novel written by Gregory Maguire. And do you know who’s going to be starring in the movie? Ariana Grande.
Ariana is making her comeback to the big screen by playing the role of Glinda alongside Cynthia Erivo, who’s going to be the main lead. Fans are beyond excited for this movie.

Argylle
The movie Argylle is based on the novel by Elly Conway and was nothing but fun with sci-fi thrown in the mix. The main character Argylle was played by none other than Henry Cavill, our very own Superman.
It was refreshing to see Henry in something lighthearted and quirky. The movie follows Detective Argylle who’s on a mission to take on the bad boys.

Spaceman
Who here loves Adam Sandler? The answer would be everyone. The grown-ups’ lead starred in this book-to-movie adaption, written by Jaroslav Kalfař in 2017.
The movie, however, incorporated some pretty big changes including the South Korean Mission part, and Jakub, played by Adam Sandler, was saved by the South Koreans instead of the Russians, as was originally done in the book.

A Gentleman in Moscow
The television series, A Gentleman in Moscow was released in March 2024 and since then it has been viewed by hundreds and thousands of people. The series that’s based on Amor Towles’s novel, A Gentleman in Moscow, perfectly captures the essence of what it was like living in post-revolutionary Russia.
Ewan McGregor plays the role of the main lead with his love interest Anna Urbanova by the side.
