Carrie Underwood is no stranger to accolades and applause. With a career that boasts countless awards , chart-topping hits, and high-profile performances, she’s a bona fide superstar.
Yet, despite all these achievements, one person remained unfazed: her nine-year-old son, Isaiah. That is, until now.
The thing that won him over was her collaboration with the ’90s rock band, Papa Roach .
In a recent interview on Good Morning America, Underwood shared a delightful revelation about her son ’s newfound admiration.
It’s not her many CMA and ACM trophies, her spectacular Las Vegas Reflection residency, or even her exciting new role as a judge on American Idol that caught Isaiah’s attention.
No, the moment that finally impressed him was her collaboration with Papa Roach, the renowned band.
“My nine-year-old son, who’s a massive fan of Papa Roach, I finally am doing something cool to him,” Underwood said with a laugh. “He thinks his mom’s cool, for probably one minute. But I’ll take it.”
Isaiah’s interest in Papa Roach may seem surprising for a child under ten, but there’s a reason behind his rock-leaning tastes.
Underwood herself is a huge rock fan and has been listening to Papa Roach since she was a teenager.
Her love for rock music has been evident over the years, with memorable duets alongside artists like Joan Jett and Guns N’ Roses .
Underwood’s duet with Papa Roach is a fresh take on the band’s 2022 release, “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark).”
This song is part of Papa Roach’s “ Talk Away the Dark ” campaign, in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
All royalties from this collaboration will be donated to AFSP indefinitely, a cause that resonates deeply with Underwood.
“For them to ask me to be a part of this song specifically was just absolutely incredible,” Underwood remarked. “I love the song. I was like, ‘I already know the song, so let’s do it.‘”
The song ‘s message adds an extra layer of significance to the collaboration.
Papa Roach’s lead singer, Jacoby Maddix , uses their shows to connect with the audience on a personal level, sharing his own experiences and encouraging others to seek help and support.
“[Jacoby] makes it a point during their shows to take a second to talk to the audience, one-on-one: ‘These are the things that I’ve been through,'” Underwood explained. “And he wants to use those things to help other people, which I think is absolutely amazing. So that’s what we’re doing.”
Underwood and Papa Roach released their new version of “ Leave a Light On” last week, and it’s clear that this project holds a special place in her heart.
For Underwood, it’s not just about making great music, but also about creating something that her son can look up to and feel proud of.
For Isaiah, this collaboration with Papa Roach has finally made his mom the rockstar he always wanted her to be.
It’s a small victory for Underwood, but one that she treasures. As she puts it, “ He thinks his mom’s cool, for probably one minute. But I’ll take it.”
With this new rock collaboration, Underwood has not only impressed her toughest critic but also contributed to a meaningful cause, proving once again that her talents and heart know no bounds.
