Jim Parsons , forever linked to his iconic role as Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory , recently opened up about the idea of returning for a reboot.
Although the show ended in 2019 after 12 seasons, fans still love the funny characters and their unique friendships.
When asked about the chance of bringing the show back, Parsons said, “never say never,” giving fans hope that they might see the gang together again.

While chatting with Chris Wallace on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace , the 51-year-old star made it clear he’s not jumping at the idea of stepping back into Sheldon’s shoes just yet, but he’s not closing the door on the possibility either.
“As we sit here now, no,” Jim said when asked if he’d consider being part of a reboot.
“But I also would never say never to anything, because life just changes so much.”
He added that his experience on the show was incredibly special, even describing it as “lightning in a bottle,”which is hard to recreate.
“Why would we be doing it? I don’t know,”Jim pondered, clearly grappling with the idea of revisiting a show that’s become a beloved part of TV history .
While he seems content to leave The Big Bang Theory in the past for now, Jim did leave fans with a glimmer of hope, saying, “God willing, life is very long,”hinting that anything can happen in the future.
The conversation also turned to how Jim feels about being so closely identified with the character of Sheldon Cooper.
For some actors , being so strongly associated with one role can be a double-edged sword. But for Jim, it’s mostly a good thing these days.
“I feel pretty strongly that it’s almost, if not totally, 100% a blessing at this point,”Jim explained.
Interestingly, he admitted that 10 years ago, he might not have felt that way, but now, looking back, he sees it as a significant part of his life and career.
It seems time has given him a fresh perspective on the role that made him a household name.
While Jim is uncertain about a full-fledged reboot, The Big Bang Theory universe is far from over.
Another spinoff is in the works, following the success of Young Sheldon , which aired from 2017 until wrapping up earlier this year.
The upcoming spinoff has generated a lot of buzz, especially with the recent announcement that Lauren Lapkus, Kevin Sussman , and Brian Posehn will be reprising their roles.
As you might expect, fan reactions have been mixed.
Some have voiced their skepticism on social media , with one person asking, “How many spinoffs does this show need?”
Others were more blunt, predicting it would be “terrible” or calling it a cash grab, saying, “Some things just belong in the past. Please let it rest.”
However, there are still plenty of fans excited about the new project.
One commenter optimistically stated, “I know this will be a hit,” while another simply said, “Yes, please!”
It shows that even years after The Big Bang Theory aired its final episode in April 2019, it still holds a special place in the hearts of many viewers.
The fact that a third spinoff is moving forward proves that people aren’t quite ready to let go of this world just yet.
Though Jim isn’t rushing back to play Sheldon full-time, he did get the chance to revisit the character in Young Sheldon during the show’s finale.
Reflecting on that experience, Jim admitted it gave him a sense of closure he didn’t even know he needed.
He reunited with Mayim Bialik , who played Sheldon’s wife Amy Farrah Fowler, and described the moment as “the perfect little coda” to his time as Sheldon.
In a People interview, Jim shared how meaningful it was to step back into that world as a guest.
“It was just really sweet,” he said, describing how much he enjoyed reuniting with the cast and crew.
The quieter, more intimate setting of Young Sheldon compared to The Big Bang Theory ’s live-audience format made the experience feel special and personal.
Jim even used the word “sacred” to describe it, noting how surprised he was by how much the moment meant to him.
While fans of The Big Bang Theory wait to see if Sheldon Cooper will ever make a return, Jim Parsons has been keeping busy with new and exciting projects.
His latest venture is starring in the Broadway revival of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town .
This revival marks the first time in over 20 years that the beloved play has been back on Broadway, and it officially opened on October 10.
The play, a timeless classic, follows the daily lives of residents in a small American town, exploring universal themes of love, loss, and the fleeting nature of life.
Jim is part of an impressive ensemble cast that includes Katie Holmes , Zoey Deutch, Ephraim Sykes, and Michelle Wilson.
The production is running at the Barrymore Theatre through January 19, 2025.
For Jim, Our Town offers a refreshing change from his sitcom days.
The actor has always had a love for the stage, and this revival gives him a chance to return to his theater roots.
In addition to Our Town , Jim has kept busy with other film and TV projects over the years, but it seems the stage is where he’s currently focused.
As for what’s next, Jim has proven that he’s open to new opportunities, whether it’s more theater work or another TV role—maybe even a return to the Big Bang Theory universe, eventually.
But for now, he’s enjoying his post-Sheldon career and taking things one project at a time.
